Can't this company make software that just installs as it should
Why am I getting the founding error when installing the trail version of Visual Studio Pro 2005
Error 1406. Could not write value to key \Software\Classes\.xsd\OpenWithList\devenv.exe. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
All other programs WERE closed and my anti-virus WAS disabled

Installation Error.

I don't see anything on the DVD they sent me that says Admin Account, so I would say no.
It just says 90-day trail and has a product key inside.

Hi everyone,
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the following registry keys do not grant the Write permission to the current user.
The Visual Studio Installer attempts to write to these registry keys when it starts and generates an error message if it is unable to do so. These registry keys are not generally "writeable" in a secured environment.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, grant Administrator users the "Full Control" permission:
How To Use the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Registry Editor Features. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310426
WARNING: Granting all users the "Full Control" permission on a shared registry key may not be permitted by your system administrator, and/or your local security policies. Because of this, please use caution when you use the following procedure.
Grant Administrator and Administrators group the "Full Control" permission on each of these shared registry keys.

I doubt it is a corrupted account.
It's probably worth uninstalling, re-booting and installing again, though knowing Microsoft
I'll probably still get the error.
Isn't crazy that you have to BUY the product to get it to work Thanks Bill! :(
I'll get back to you on the results of the uninstall.

:-) I am referring to the user account in Windows, not the DVD.
in Windows, you login to do your work correct You login to a user account in order to work/use the computer correct This user account, what type is it is it a guest user account or an Admin account you need to install the DVD in a user account which has admin priviledges

Thanks for that. It is interesting. Have you tried, for testing purposes, to install it on a different user account, such as the "Administrator" account, just to see if that resolves the issue. It could be a corrupted user account or some other issue.
Have you tried to uninstall VS2005 and rebooted the system then re-installed it again have you previously installed any beta or CTP products of .NET or Visual Studio before

I found a bug in the Visual Studio 2005 Pro install. This directory path 'vs' does not work.
I had to change it to 'Visual Stuido 2005 Professional Edition - ENU' after I extracted the install to a directory.
I hope someone from Microsoft sees this posting and fixes the install.
I downloaded the trial and then extracted it to disk, then changed the directory.
You will need to copy your DVD to disk, then thange the directory.

Instead of installing it on my F: drive, I installed it on my C: drive.
.Net 2.0 installed OK but I still got the SAME Microsoft error.
Answer: Don't buy expensive Microsoft products because they don't support trial versions which don't work.
You will be FORCED to buy a full-licensed version that you can't first evaluate in order to get a working version that may not suit your needs. Stick with Adobe/Macromedia.
Here is the error log:
