Upcoming Starter Kits

From yesterday's webcast (where was everyone ), it was mentioned that a puzzle starter kit would be included in the RTM version and that the XNA Racer starter kit would come with the Creator's Club membership. I didn't get a chance to confirm this. Is this the case Also, are there any plans for other starter kits down the road

Upcoming Starter Kits

I don't have an Xbox 360.  I'd love to have one but its not in the budget.  Without one, the Creator's Club seems kinda pointless to me.  Plus, I imagine there are plenty of people who only care about Windows Development.  Me and many others will just be left out in the cold.  I just don't see the point not making all starter kits freely available.  Its certainly not going to make me sign upfor the club.

true, but you have to wonder at the rationale behind it ... I mean, the starter kits are obviously meant to be modded and redistributed. So what's the stop a generous creator's club member of creating a new XnaRacer project, send to > Compressed file, FTP up to his website, announce "Starter kits for one and all!"

Why not just give the starter kits out for free since they have a generous license (I imagine) in the first place

Now I'll have to do some rewiring to support that setup -- not sure if I'll be able to get to that before the end of the year :-(

Before doing any rewiring, try it with the wireless adapter first. While you will certainly get the best performance and less chance of lag/disconnect issues with a wired connection, everyone on the XNA team who has tried it has been able to use wireless. With a poor signal, deployment of files is slow, and remote debugging is choppy, but with a good signal the difference in performance is usually not noticeable.

For best results the recommended setup is to use wired for both your Xbox 360 and PC, but a wireless connection should be okay, too.

    Good point :-P

Another option is to use an ethernet over power adapter. While some can be pricey, I've been able to find 85mbps for $30 (which has gotten 28mbps throughput) and I know there's a number of kits for 14mbps adapters where you can get 2 of them for $100 or so.

It's a good option if wireless signal strength is an issue, but running cable isn't feasible.

I remember that thread. I'd love to see FPS and RTS starter kits. There's a lot of other possibilities - board game, RPG, side scroller, etc.

that's great news ... Frank Savage seemed pretty sure that it wouldn't work in that c9 video.

I get a pretty good signal so I think I'll give it a go. I have been meaning on running some wire over to my entertainment center anyways just to get that extra bandwidth on XBL :-P I'll probably do that sometime next year.

Edit: sorry for hijacking your thread Jim ... bring on the starter kits!! :-P

There was a webcast thems XNA people are slackin' with the blog posts then ... because I think I've got just about everyone involved in xna on my rss reader :-P or are you talking about the channel9 video

As far as starter kits, haven't they mentioned an RTS kit would be available at some point and I'd be surprised if an FPS kit wasn't done :-)

Nope, this was an MS Events webcast. I've downloaded the Channel 9 videos but haven't checked them out yet.

I try not to wonder, I just go with the flow. I'll be getting a Creator's Club membership so I'm not concerned.

Yeah, but the Starter Kit is just icing on the cake.
