Will XNA work with .......?

hey everyone im new to this forums and i just had a quick question but if this question has been already asked then you may lock it.

ok my question is i recently downloaded Microsoft Visual C# Express 2005 will this work with XNA / is that the only program i had to download for XNA.. or in other words are there any other software i need to download to use XNA on August 30th or will XNA come with the other programs

So the Visual C# express that i downloaded of micrsoft website is good for XNA is is XNA going to come with a different C# express

I am not to sure if you need C# Express to run XNA, the way it sound it will come with it. However I think if you already have C# Express it will share files with XNA.

The general rule of thumb with the Express editions is that addons of that sort are not supported by the regular product.

In the case of XNA as you've learned that on August 30th a beta version of XNA Game Studio Express will be released that is a custom built version of C# Express that targets XNA, something the regular version of C# cannot do.

As for what other software you may need... I'd hold off looking for anything extra until the beta is out.

XNA Game Studio Express plugs into existing Visual C# Express installations. You will need to have Visual C# Express installed to install XNA Game Studio Express. Because the Express SKUs of Visual Studio use a different package (plugin) verification mechanism, XNA Game Studio Express will not plug into other Visual Studio SKUs. XNA Game Studio Professional will plug into other Visual Studio SKUs.

Hope this clears up some of the confusion.

I can understand this...but its weird I have VS2005 professional & now i have to download express c# to work with XNA , or wait until spring when the professional XNA comes out !! weird !!

You can first download a c# express when XNA beta is released

and wait for the XNA professional next year

Kevin, your post has me a little confused. I was under the assumption that the XNA Game Studio Express was a totally separate build of the VS 2005 IDE and not just a plug-in. If indeed the XNA Game Studio Express is a plug-in for the C# Express IDE, will it also be compatible with Visual Studio 2005 Standard and Professional Editions for the Aug 30 release I asked this before on David Weller’s blog and his answer was no, however your statement seems contradictory.

Ok I have another question related to this.

I have VS2005 Pro installed.

I need to install c# Express to use GSE ok.

On msdn for downloading c# express it states:

Uninstall beta versions

Before installing, you must uninstall any previous versions of SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005, and the .NET Framework 2.0 (this includes Tech Preview, Beta, or CTP versions).

Now, does this refer to only Beta version of VS2005 or must I un-install my VS2005 Pro to install C# Express (and GSE)

This would suck :(
