What do i need to accomplish my goal of 3d model?

Hi to all and thanks for reading my post.

I would like to create a 3d model, for a game that i would like it create and i am trying to create a model for it. I was wonder what would be a good FREE program to do this since aim out of work and have no start up money for this. I have always wanted to be a game programmer ever since i played my first arcade game and my Commander PC. This has been in my mind for years, which i have been make notes on what type of game that would be an additive game that people would enjoy to play and would come back and play again.

I own an Xbox 360 and have found that the Xbox live arcade games as well as Internet mini games as i call them like Heavy Weapons, Hexic, and Gemoetry Wars Evolved. Programming is not new to me. I have had the usual course that most people take C++ and Visual basic. Unfortunately as far as the graphics goes i have had little to no experience with them. So which bring me here to my other fellow programmers that are also looking for a like help.

So any one who can help with some info on a free application that is easy but has a full range of options that is as good as the full $5000 dollar software package.

Thanks for listening....god be with you all.

To learn Blender, check out the blender wiki:

The "Noob to Pro wikibook" on the wiki is really good.

Nothing for free will be as good as the big packages. That's why they can sell for such ridiculous prices.

However it's not to say you can't do amazing things. Look up Blender. It's free and very popular. I don't use it, but from what I've heard, if you can learn the UI, it's amazing. Another much more simple modeling program is Wings3D.

Those are the two free ones that jump to mind. Hopefully it helps.

I must also suggest Gmax, though it does not have the appropriate exporters, you can write one in the local "MaxScript" language - which is cross-program with 3ds Max.
