Problem using .FBX file

I have a model that I downloaded off of TurboSquid. I pulled it into 3DS MAX 9, and exported it as an FBX file.

I added it to my project, and when I try to compile I get the following error:

BasicMaterial has a texture, but geometry does not contain texture coordinates.

Is this a problem with 3DS or GSE Any ideas on how to fix it

Problem using .FBX file

    Eli,

I was using 2006.08, so I upgraded the plug-in and tried again, unfortunately I got the same error. So I then exported it as ASCII and did a search for LayerElementUV; here is what was there:

    LayerElementUV: 0 {
    Version: 101
    Name: "UVChannel_DIFFUSE0"
    MappingInformationType: "ByPolygonVertex"
    ReferenceInformationType: "IndexToDirect"
    UV: 0.999998331069946, ..... <snip>

If this doesn't help, let me know how, and I can send the model to you directly to look at or make it available for download.

    It displays correctly in MAX.

    Eli,

I don't know what the bug number is, after attaching the files I got an error screen when the upload was complete. I am hoping after all of that work, it all came through.

But yes, you are correct, "jet.fbx" is the file that I exported from the MAX scene. Poetz 670.max is the max project I am working from.

a couple of things to check:

Do you have the latest version of the fbx plugin, 2006.11

When you export, are you exporting to 2006.11

try exporting to ascii fbx, and open the file in a text editor. search for the text "LayerElementUV" - do you see it anywhere

I haven't had much time today to look at it, but the problem appears to be in a part of the scene called "l_trim". It has a material which uses a texture, but it doesn't have any texture coordinates. I'll keep you informed what I find out. Can I email you That might work better than the forums.

    Thanks
    Eli

Sounds like something happened (or didn't happen that should have) in the export, assuming the model displayed correctly in Max.

Weird. I'd like to look at the fbx file, if that's ok. Is there somewhere you can post it I don't think we have something set up for posting files.

    Thanks,
    Eli

Sorry to jump in but if you'd like to share the file with us please file a bug on Microsoft Connect where you can attach a file (Up to 2MB). You can find more information here: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=682921&SiteID=1

    Thanks!

Ok, I'm on the case . What's the bug number in connect

Also, just to be sure, you downloaded something from turbosquid, imported it into max ( that's potez 670.max ) and then exported to fbx ( that's jet.fbx )

Okay, I zipped up the whole thing (.max scene file, textures, .fbx) and put them up on my server, you should be able to grab them from here:

    http://www.wilderland.com/wld/Assets.zip

Eli, let me know when you've downloaded it from my server so that I can pull it off.

I did also file a bug report, so this is in the system as well now as well.
