Bryce 5 (3d modelling) for free! (no strings!)

This isn't the latest version of Bryce, but if you're like me, and are just interested in creating free meshes to play around with in XNA, it's not bad. It's certainly a lot more use friendly than the Blender app I downloaded last week.

http://www.daz3d.com/program/bryce/bryce5free.php

You have to download it before 6th September, but it doesn't need installing, just unzip and run - so worth downloading and pasting the serial number in before then just in case! :-)

After putting the serial number in, it'll also offers a free download of some extra stuff (I couldn't actually find what it added to Bryce, but I'm sure it was something!).

Exports to .x files, which will be supported by the Content Pipeline, or can be converted to the Spacewar format (.swm) using the convertor someone posted here :-)

Looks like Trees might be the only thing you can't export!

Sounds to me like the typical demo restrictions.

I downloaded Bryce free and extra stuff, but menu item "export" is grayed, not active.
    Do you know why

Only Rocks,Terrains,Lattices can be exported at this time...Imported objects cans also be exported out BUT only if you Dont save them as a Bryce obp file format...

Version 6 you can read what DAZ has Planned and whats going to be in it...

The only way to export tree's are as 2d Billboards/Planes...with the alpha/Mask map...

Selecting an object and clicking export object works only if I select a terrain or lattice object... how did you export the tree
  • ivanchain

    hmmm, it seems I didn't!

I didn't do anything with what I exported, I was just testing it. It's called Tree.x, but when I open it, it's terrain! I'll go see if I can figure out how to get the tree!

I tryed all objects that I can create in Bryce: I can export only terrian and lattice.

Can you post a link to what DAZ has Planned for version 6
    Thank you.

I had the same issue, and also assumed it was because it was free, but it's not - you need to select the object to export first :)

The app seems to let you build a whole scene of many objects (and render it to an image), but you need to select which object to export for the menu item to become enabled :)

I haven't used it much, I just noticed I could make a tree and export it to .x format :D I thought I'd post here, because many people suggested Blender, and after installing it, I was horrified. Bryce is marginally more friendly :D

If I load an object from "Manual Tutorial" like "Finished Terrain.br5" then I can export it to x file,
if I create an object like a torus then export menu item is not enabled.
    Why
