SylvirCoder ADAM and MOSS2007
Hello, I would like to know if MOSS2007 will be configured with ADAM (Active Directory Application Mode ) JB As an alternative MOSS now supports the ASP.Net 2.0 forms authentication. There is a beta tool available on Codeplex that allows admins to manage the users through the UI. MOSS utilizes the Authentication / Authorization provider model. Any provider can be plugged in. SO in short, yes, it can use LDAP... the longer answer would be that I do not have any personal experience using it but from the documentation, it appears feasible using the LDAP provider... Hope that helps. The only think that's I can tell you is to go to https://blogs.pointbridge.com/Blogs/morse_matt/default.aspx I hope is help ...Show All

bijuintouch Artifacts can we/should we version for SharePoint development
What artifacts would we version in VSS when working on SharePoint portal sites (i.e. Could we some type of “source code” or something that we could go back to the previous version of the site, if we so desired) as well as compare new site with the previous site. For example, if I assigned a developer to work on the portal and design a page for it, would be the final output to store in VSS. (is it even possible ) or do we have to do a full DB backup/restore to get that functionality. Could we export the site as some sort of “meta-language” i.e. XML or something like that and then “import the site” into another instance. Thank you Tyler Durham ! What to s ...Show All

thorlax402 Typed Dataset
Hi, I am evaluating typed dataset vs custom objects. When we drop an table in xsd designer, it creates an adapter for that table with fill and getdata() as t he default fucntions. I wish to know that if i remove this default adapter from xsd, Do the datasetdesigner.cs file (which is generated automatically in vs.net when we add an xsd), need xsd at the runtime or not.As per my belief, cs file contains all the necessary function to retrieve schema and do other operations with database and hence it does not need any xml file behind it. Please pour in with whatever you know about this. This will certaining help me understanding typed dataset advantage regards ...Show All

pinkybaby redirect user’s browser after submit
Hi, I have created an InfoPath form on SharePoint form services. After the user has submitted the page I want the user’s browser to redirect to a custom webpage. Is this possible Thanks, It works fine when I enter the url in the navigation bar of the browser. But I have my form running in an Iframe. When I set the same url in the Iframe I get a JavaScript error ‘access denied’. I don’t know if matters but I use anonymous access. Is Javascript restricted in an Iframe It is more likely to be due to the security restrictions in pace for the zone you are in. Try adding both sites to the 'Local Intranet Zone' (which by default allows cross-domain and zone hopping s ...Show All

T E N MOSS Beta2 trial period expired
Hi One of our client was using MOSS 2007 Beta2 version. Today they got 'Trial period is expired' message when they try to access the site. Was the Beta2 version good until Jan 2007 What are the next steps to upgrade to RTM Regards Amit I dont remember the exact date that the Beta was to expire but January rings a bell. For upgrading Beta2 to RTM you must first upgrade to Beta2TR then to RTM or just wipe and start from scratch which is what I would recommend. Joel Oleson, Shane Young and myself all put out some information on this and you can find the link at the Microsoft Sharepoint Team Blog site http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint Hope this helps Bob Hi Bob Thanks for your reply. Fern.Andy Typed Dataset or Custom Classes
Hey friends, I am a VB developer, soon I am going to start a new project. It will be a client application, I will use a SQL server database. I am used to use custom classes, I create my onw variables properties, events and methods. I am aware of the Typed Data Set and thinking about using it on my new project. The problem is that I have never used it, I do not know the minuses and plusses of the Typed dataset. Now, my boss and me on the desicion phase, we want to implement the most efficient and easy maintainable one. If you ask me , I'm quite happy with custom classes :)) My opinion is that the custom class is better for performance purposses, because I create properties and meth ...Show All

SunilN Multi-tiered enterprise application
I am trying to get my head around multi tiered web apps in the .net world. In the java world, the tiers can be separated neatly into Web Tier (say Apache)->remotely accesses Middle Tier App server (say weblogic) which implements code which calls the data tier->Data Tier In the windows world, IIS can be the web tier but I cant find the middle tier. I read about enterprise services, but that requires inheriting from a COM interface which is something I dont want to do. Is there a pure .NET component app server out there Any tutorials on creating middle tier pure .NET components I also read about IIS hosting web services and have implemented a couple.. Philipp Lamp Recurring Appointment Database Storage
Hello, I am writing an application that handles scheduling of appointments. I will need to support recurring appointments and I anticipate performance problems should I go about this naively. I believe my task is pretty simple to explain. One query might be to retrieve all appointments within a week. Or, all appointments within a month. Of course, these queries should combine results for single and recurring appointments. Specifically, I think I should be trying to avoid calculations within my select statement when I retrieve information from the database. So, I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on how/what data should be stored to ensure my queries are optimal. Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions! ...Show All
MJC2006 What is the most valuable principle in design?
In looking at SOA, earlier component based design, separation of concerns, etc. It seems to me that architecturally they can all be lumped in to various flavors of abstraction. So, it occurs to me and seems to hold true in my designs that the most valuable principle in software design is abstraction. Does anyone feel that a different principle is more critical Are there different schools of thought (SOA, SOC, Interface based design, etc.) that are contradictory when dealing with abstraction New to the forum, but have been wanting to talk with people that make an effort to further their design knowledge. For me, principles are really situationally specific. I think what is more fundamental is axioms tha ...Show All
