  • Abelard Beginner question III - tier for windows forms application

Hello, I'm a client-server programmer new to III tier aproach. Ok, i understand benefits of III layer, dividing funtionality in diferenents components that can optionally run in differents servers, i'm learning with GoF and Fowler patterns books. But I don't know if i need to run layers in differents servers. The principal reason i've found to III-tier is that in client-server architecture every client hold a connection to the database, and because connection are resource intensive, system doesn't scale.Text talk about thousands of clients is imposible for client-server system. But nowadays ram is cheap so with and estimation of even 1mb per client connection, 2000 clients would need 2gb for the server, not much memory. Other reason ...Show All

  • SynergyNT Cannot upload a .exe file to a sharepoint site.

Hi, I am unable to upload an exe file to a site created using MOSS 2007. Inspite of removing .exe from the list of blocked files in Central Administrator, I still cannot upload a exe file. How do i upload a .exe file Any information on this will be appritiated.. Thanks in advance, Regards, Sunit Pinto Executables should still go on the network and not in SharePoint. SharePoint is for documents / data. File shares are still for executables IMHO. Probably the easiest way is to just zip up the file. SPS was not really meant to replace a file share so things like exe files are better left off of it. I believe Mike Fitzmaurice has a blog entry about just this type of thing. ...Show All

  • Mahesha I don't know what can I extract from my load project

!Hello everyone! I have tested my application, it includes: indigo's service, a little logic based in typed datasets and an Oracle DB. Well, all, included the database, is into a P4 3,2 Ghz, 2gb ram. Only that machine. From my machine I have launched a test, it call an user case which access the DB with little logic. Well, in the test I have only achieved 20 concurrent users without errors (I think that is enough for my app). When I put more concurrent users the problems begins and IIS falls. What I want to know is if in that topology 20 concurrent users is a good number or I should have reach more. Thanks, I don't have experience in load testing and I don't know what expect. 20 concurrent users is quite low having ...Show All

  • DouglasL UML/Modeling Tools you are using?

One of the problems I have found in VSTS 2005 is the lack of modeling tools for the Software Architect. Jack Greenfield addressed and answered my concerns here . He also said MS is working on some addressing some of the issues. I responded to him here . I needed something today to allow me to continue doing my job which currently is implementing a product line engineering process. I am using UML on this project. In case you are interested, here is a list of the tools we are evaluating from MS and their status. I answered Steve Cook's question as to what UML I would like to see supported by MS here . XDE was out because it is not supported in VSTS 2005. Since no improvements have been made to Visio's UML features for so ...Show All

  • crussting Thin client vs smart client

We are moving from a VB6 to a .net world. We are about to finish our business components and now its time to start thinking about the UI. Well, there it comes the doubt: should we choose a smart client path or a thin client one We develop backoffice financial apps; they are used in several ways (users that operate it to process information, board of directors that access it just to analyse information, end customers that access it to get information on balance account etc). The chance to have someone using a non windows OS (accessing the system as client) is remote, but exists. If we choose a webbrowser client, then we would have to buy some good components (specially grid component and menus) that could "replicate" desktop exper ...Show All

  • Vivek S Displaying Workbook using external data with periodic refresh in EWA

Hello. I have a very simple workbook containing a Pivot Table that is populated by an external data source (SQL Server 2005 database). The connection properties of the external data source are configured to Enable background refresh, Refresh every 1 minute, and Refresh data when opening the file. The connection is configured to use Windows Authentication. The workbook resides in a Trusted File location. When I open the workbook in Excel 2007, the refresh works fine. No problems. When the workbook is opened in EWA, it appears to load a cached (old) version of the workbook, then the first time a refresh occurs, the Data Refresh Failed message is displayed. I have closely followed the "instructions" provided at http://technet2 ...Show All

  • efm01 VisioR 2003 UML To XMI Export

Has anyone been able to import the xmi export file this tool generates into any other tool I have tried pulling Visio Use case diagrams into XDE, Sparx 4.1, and now Sparx 6.0 with zero luck. Are there any plans to upgrade this add-in to export xmi 1.1, 1.2, etc The 1.0 version it exports is not support with the rest of the tools (XDE and Sparx) on the market I am currently using. Tad To address your questions: The main purpose of the tool was to provide a mechanism to export model data (from class diagrams) into an xml file which you can programmatically access. There is no other extension mechanism to access model data from UML diagrams. Because each vendor has interpreted and ...Show All

  • sunny123 Issues With Delay Activity

Has anybody had any success using the Delay activity within Visual Studio authored workflows Whenever I include a Delay activity in my workflows the workflow goes to sleep and never wakes up. If I listen for a Delay activity along with other events inside a Listen activity, I find that the other events (for example, OnTaskChanged) cause the workflow to be rehydrated as expected but the Delay activity does not. It doesn't seem to make any difference what the TimeoutDuration is set to or whether it's set statically in the designer or dynamically inside an InitiializeTimeoutDuration method. Does anyone have some sample code with Delay activities working correctly Delay activity in RTM version doesn't fi ...Show All
