Hooper What version of Windows SharePoint service to install? 2.0 or 3.0?
Our company will hire a company to install SharePoint. Thare are some options. Can someone give me advice (We use Office 2003, Windows 2003, SQL server 2000, VS2005) 1) WSS 2.0 only 2) WSS 2.0 and SharePoint portal server 3) WSS 3.0 only 4) WSS 3.0 and SharePoint 2007 Well, the real question is what do you need to do with sharepoint. If you dont have sharepoint right now, I guess you can rule out sharepoint 2003 and wss 2.0, so your question should be "do I need Microsoft Office SharePoint Server or is WSS 3.0 enough for my needs" The Office Server comes with features that you will not have in wss 3.0 - such as enterprise search (search outside sharepoint, and search ...Show All
Paule_XE IP Forms only for MOSS 2007?
Can somebody refute or verify this information for me I was told in a training session last week that one can use IP forms for workflow in WSS v3. The trainer stated that because the IP forms are rendered by workflow as aspx that one does not need MOSS 2007 Enterprise (with the Forms server). Is this correct information The reason I ask is that I'm not sure how to deploy the forms as a feature with my workflow under WSS v3. Here is the contents of my workflow.xml. Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/"> <Workflow Name="Print Shop Workflow" Description="This feature is a sequential workflow for the processing of the Print Shop Work Request." gericooper Architecture question
I have a mobile field service app written to run on WM5 CF2 and would like some advice on architecture. For this type of app, the runtime performance is crucial in relation to startup time. I have a Data Access Layer (DAL) with various classes that provide the abstraction between business objects and the persistence layer e.g. SqlCe. One class per business object. On top of that is the Business Logic Layer (BLL) that uses the DAL layer. This is impemented by normal classes. And on top of that the Presentation layer implemented as a number of Forms that use the BLL layer methods only. I have also created a 'MyApplication' class with the singleton pattern. When the class instantiates, it creates all the BLL classes, the database c ...Show All

UncleSam89 SharePoint 2003, the .NET Framework 3.0 and SharePoint WebParts
G'Day Guys, I'm currently in a situation where I am planning an Enterprise-wide upgrade from the .NET Framework 1.1 (Visual Studio .NET 2003) to the .NET Framework 3.0 (Visual Studio 2005). There are many servers within the business that I work for, that have the .NET Framework 1.1 installed. We have a uniform installation of .NET 1.1 within the business. So we don't have .NET 2.0 over here and .NET 1.0 over there. We also have a small team of developers that have a Visual Studio .NET 2003/.NET Framework 1.1 Standard Operating Environment (SOE). The Developer environment is also planned to be upgraded to Visual Studio 2005/.NET 3.0. All .NET Web Applications are built in Visual Studio .NET 2003 and are deployed to a Development Web Server ...Show All
Keyth Need help on design pattern
Can somebody help me in deciding the best pattern I should use for following scenario Here is my scenario. XYZ is a company with different members. XYZ sign up with different providers. Each provider needs different information from members. Some of which is common to all providers like first name, last name. On member enrollment screen, first member will select provider and depend on that provider I'm creating controls dynamically (normally input boxes). This is working fine. I created member object with all possible information provider needs (object properties in my case). On submit button I’m assigning values from dynamically created controls to member object. My problem is, member object has so many properties and ...Show All
bzoli Security Trimming Bug ? WSS3.0
I have a strange one that I noticed today and thought someone might have seen it, have an answer, etc. We have a WSS3.0 Site Collection that we are using for the IT department at my client site to collaborate (I'm working on getting MOSS but for now, they are getting their feet wet with WSS) I created a site under the root site of the site collection (Home > Secure Site) and removed permissions for everyone except a few folks. This worked fine and all users except those few do not have the menu item displayed to them. Great. What I noticed is, if another user is the Site Owner of a sub site (Home > Another Site) then when they are on the site that they are an owner of, they see the link in the menu bar for the Secure Site. S10n 2-Tier Problems Accessing Remote Data
I have a 2-tier architecture question. What are the problems associated with accessing data remotely in a situation where a client application is directly accessing a SQL Server database over the internet There are obviously security issues related to preventing unwanted access to the database, but what about performance issues Are there connection reliability issues, network limitations, etc., related to the effectiveness of a direct remote connection to SQL Server An alternative architecture we are considering is a 3-tier model with a middle-tier application server (web service). Thanks. You should think about your requirements then try to decide what's the solution that would fit your situ ...Show All

Hi All Is there an update to the document located here: http://www.microsoft.com/office/sharepoint/prodinfo/officeintegration.mspx regarding Office version integration with Sharepoint. I need info on how well Office 2003 will work with MOSS2007 Cheers Mike Thanks All... it's the features in MOSS2007 that will be missing if using Office 2003 that I'm most interested in also. Cheers Mike I have been looking for an update to the Good, Better, Best document as well. WebMajstr Creating Visio Diagrams in an ASP.Net Web Form Programmatically (C#)
I need to do the above, that is, create a Visio Diagram from scratch (using data held in a MS SQL Server 2005 db) on an ASP.Net web form. Is SharePoint the right technology for me to be looking at, or is it for a completely different task Pointers in the right direction (and perhaps a code sample!) would be really appreciated. Many thanks. Thanks Ishai, The fact that I now know Sharepoint isn't the technology I should be looking at is a step in the righ direction. You'r question and specifications have nothing to do with sharepoint. Sharepoint is a platform to host asp.net2 applications and comes with a wrapper around SQL that allows users to build *lists*, b ...Show All
I.Katzav Objects with many child object relations - Need design help!
Hello, First let me start by saying that I am just getting started with OOP and Domain driven design so please take it easy on me. I am designing a domain model that consists of PROJECT objects that can contain ISSUE objects that can contain other objects like NOTES and ATTACHMENTS. There will be times in which my application will need to populate each PROJECT object along with all related child objects. However, sometimes I just need to get a list of PROJECTS to fill a dropdown or list UI control. In this case I just need some basic PROJECT properties like name and ID. I think it would be too much overhead if I populated all child objects just to fill a list (especially if there are many PROJECTs). Shoud I create 2 separate PROJ ...Show All
