  • Barry Kwok missing &Source= on URL/request line

    On my development server, when I click on a hyperlinked forms document, the eventual URL that opens has a few parameters added to the end of it, 'OpenIn' and 'Source'. On my test server (deployed to with a site backup/restore) the same hyperlink on the same view results in a URL without the Source parameter. I assume it is a configuration issue, but I can't think where it might be. Has anyone else come across this, or have a bright idea for me ...Show All

  • Brian Chavez Architecting aggregation of data

    We have a group of very similar sql server databases running on our server. We are plannning to create an application which will need to get information from all these similar databases. What do you all think is the best way to go about doing it I am thinking about creating a realtime or periodically updated central database aggregating the info from all the others. How can I do this DTS Or create a data cache in memory A web application, web service and windows forms will be running off this database. Should be able to do a fast search. Is caching the database the only way to achieve this How about XML databases thanks a lot in advance. Thanks for your suggestions and for giving some direction Arnon. ...Show All

  • jgiacobbe Crawl performance on BDC application

    We have been working on a POC that involves a reasonably complex BDC mapping on the AdventureWorks2005 database. We are including about 10 entities with numerous associations. The BDC generation was reasonable straight forward (one problem we had I will post about seperately) however I am finding the indexing of the content to be painfully slow. This is running on a single machine (so results will not be indicative of live) but we have found that it has taken over 4 hours to index 150,000 entities (works orders, products etc). Also the SharedServices_Search database has grow to over 2GB which is a significant multiplier on the base data of about 170MB, do we have any numbers of this or is it totally dependent on the mappings, assoc ...Show All

One easy way would be to use doc library's create new document API with different templates (*.doc, *.ppt etc) - but I'm looking for a different solution. Thanks Sanjay ...Show All

  • DLdfrd Typed Dataset or Custom Classes

    Hey friends, I am a VB developer, soon I am going to start a new project. It will be a client application, I will use a SQL server database. I am used to use custom classes, I create my onw variables properties, events and methods. I am aware of the Typed Data Set and thinking about using it on my new project. The problem is that  I have never used it,  I do not know the minuses and plusses of the Typed dataset. Now, my boss and me on the desicion phase, we want to implement the most efficient and easy maintainable one. If you ask me , I'm quite happy with custom classes :)) My opinion is that the custom class is better for performance purposses, because I  create properties and meth ...Show All

  • Vighnesh Prabhudesai Parsing;

    Is there a way to parse a string using grammar without having to generate parser classes before deployment I want to have about 50 different grammars that I must be able to generate from data stored in a database. I can generate the grammars, store the grammars, but I do not know how to use these grammars without having to compile them at design time. I was looking at the Visual Studio SDK 3.0 that includes the Managed Package Lex Scanner Generator (MPLEX) and the Managed Package Parser Generator (MPPG). It seems that there is no *worthwhile* documentation on how to use these tools or even if I could benefit from them. I do not want to code in C++ as noone except me at my plant knows how to code it. So you can throw away yacc, lex, ...Show All

How about posing the question this way - can anyone explain what mechanisms generate the My Links -> My SharePoint Sites and what customization options are available I've noticed the same thing. • LearnTheThings Enterprise Service Bus

    Hello all, our goal is to start building a service oriented architecture. So we are going to provide functionality of our existing applications as web services. We don't want point to point relationships betweend consumer and provider. So that is the point where something like a entprise service bus comes up. What is the enterprise service bus product of microsoft Is it the UDDI server Thanks in advance Hennesey Hi, all I'm very confused at this time. We currently have a fairly large Biztalk env. in our company - which by the way works very well - and I'm trying to understand the ESB concept. I know that Biztalk is a hub and spoke but over the years we created services (whi ...Show All

What is the enterprise service bus product of microsoft Is it the UDDI server Thanks in advance Hennesey Hans, first, if you are happy with what you have and it fulfills your business needs - then don't touch it. That said, ESBs have a different underlying principle - the one of a bus instead of a central hub - which makes it easier to do stuff like the things you do and ...Show All

  • weaasd Column Level Security

    I'd like to grant some users access to only some of the fields in the list. I know that there's no column level security in WSS 3.0. Does anybody have any idea how can I do this Any help is appreciated. It is not possible to do this out of the box nor have I seen any 3rd party tools to do this (although it sure would be great to have). I seem to recall reading in these forums that someone was able to do something similiar to this by writing their own add-in for the views although I cannot remember the exact details. Thanks Gary. Are you talking about this post It is #1 google result for Sharepoint column level security . But it has two serious disadvantages. 1. The guy is not going to share t ...Show All

  • A.Russell Apply changes after editing web part properties.

    What event do I trap to notify my web part of updated custom properties TIA Dave Or inherit from EditorPart for your custom editor and override CreateEditorParts() in the webpart. OK, looks like it hits the property accessors automatically. The other way looks like overriding the GetToolParts() method and inheriting from the "Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.ToolPart" class for your own customtoolpart. You can then override the ApplyChanges() and SyncChanges() methods. Dave ...Show All

  • Marshall McCain critique requested on thin Data Access Layer

    I have devised a way to save tons of code by calling stored procs with a single web service method, which takes a DataSet parameter, containing a DataTable with the name of the stored procedure and column names matching the parameter names, and row(0) contents matching the values to be passed. I have further simplified matters by making all parameters varchar, so a call from my client looks like: Dim paramVals As String() = { myString1, myString2 } Dim ds As DataSet = oneWsMethod("storedProcName", "param1,param2", paramVals) ... Dim params As String() = { this1String, thisOtherstring, thirdString } ds = oneWsMethod("anotherProc", "p1,p2,p3", params, usingTransaction:=True) My o ...Show All
