XNA Rockstar Hosting Long Running Batch Processes In IIS 6
I am currently architecting a framework that will depend on IIS to host batch oriented code. The design will use a disconnected model with a controller (that lives remotely) and checks back periodically via an ASMX layer. When invoking the actual batch execution code the ASMX call will spawn as many threads as it is configured to run and immediately respond (hence avoiding any long running HTTP connection). I like the idea for a number of reasons, obviously I get to use a standard communication protocol to invoke the batch code across tiers and I can even incorporate standard load balancing routines. I'm also able to use the same communication end points to check back in on the threads as they are executing. There are also a number of o ...Show All
yudhi Auto Forward User to 'My Site'
Dear all, How to auto forward user to their My Site. Currently when user login, they will see the master Sharepoint Page. Thank you A javascript redirect on the portal's home page might not be the best idea, that would practically eliminate users from ever taking advantage of the top level site. write a group policy to lock everyone's default homepage as the url to the mysite site collection I would agree.. but it is what he was asking for :-) I would personally train them to click the "My Site" link after they have seen what's new for them on the home page :-) Use SharePoint designer to open the home page. You could also place a Content Editor web part with ...Show All
Sonic1981 HelloWorld sample not working
Hi, I've got the HelloWorld sample application working perfectly on one of my laptops. But today I tried to run it on a different laptop and it fails to run properly. Both laptops have similar installations (CSF Dev edition for XP) and use similar app.config and manifest.xml files. After I press the "CreateSession" button I get a messagebox displaying a SOAPFaultException: Internal server error occurred. I tried to get more detailed exception information, but nothing was written to the event log and using the VS2005 debugger didn't help either. Does anybody know how I can track this error Greetings, Leon Zandman Stringray wrote: The thing that bothers me is, that in ...Show All
kevinho Mobile Form view new button
When viewing the InfoPath document library on a mobile device, there is no button to add a new form even though the form is mobile enabled. If I copy the URL used by the browser to add a new form and change the aspx page to mobileformsserver.aspx instead then I can open and add a new form so everything works apart from a New button. I would like to create a libraries for mobile users to submit new forms that then follow and internal workflow process. Have I missed a setting somewhere or have I got to build a new mobile document library view. Perhaps the permission of the mobile device is only to view the library. Try to verify which user creditials are being used and then look at the library permissions. ...Show All
SillaS transfer local moss site to WSS .. its possible~????
Hello I want to know if its possible transfer local Sharepoint Server 2007 sites (with their funcionality's) to WSS server (there is no Sharepoint Server Portal, only WSS) its possible and how using backup and restore thanks My best regards, I wonder if it's now possible in the v3 products. In the v2 products it was only possible from WSS 2.0 to SPS 2003. The reason it was not possible from SPS 2003 to WSS 2.0 was because of the extra functionality available (even if not used) in those SPS 2003 sites. I would have thought the same would apply to v3 too, but maybe if you restrict the question to only those sites that are based on common template types (so not Publishing for instance which WSS 3.0 doesn't know about) i ...Show All
Bebob Meta tags in MOSS 2007 master pages
Does anyone know how I might go about inserting meta tags such as "description" and "keywords" into my master pages and page layouts in a MOSS 2007 external facing site Ideally, when an author or editor is editing a page, I want field controls for the meta description and keyword tags, so the author can fill those in and save those with the page content. The problem is that I can't put a server control like a contentplaceholder inside of the content="" attribute on a meta tag. I've tried the following: <meta name="description" content="<asp:ContentPlcaHolder ID="PlaceHolderMetaDescription" runat="server"></asp:ContentPlaceHolder>" /> The ShareP ...Show All
johnny_good Setup Error: This product requires ASP.NET v2.0
Please help, trying to install WSS 3.0 on a x64 W2K3-server that is running WSS 2.0, but i get an error at the beginning of the setup: "This product requires ASP.NET v2.0 to be set to 'Allow' in the list of IIS Web Server Extensions" I have verified that it is set to allow, so that is not the issue. One of the many x64 problems... They really should have some people dedicated to dealing with x64 compatibility issues... If you get a workable response, please pass it back this way. I'd like to be able to use SharePoint... An easy fix to this problem is to simply register ASP.NET 2.0 with the command: aspnet_regiis -c then select allow under the re ...Show All
Luis Esteban Valencia Mu&#241;oz Get content type of a file
I have a few document libraries that have word documents in them, I have to find out the content types of those documents so that I can server them to a web browser that requests them. How do I do this from the SPListItem that I have in memory I really need to solve this issue quickly, any help is greatly appreciated! Hey thanks, that looks like a great place to find out the info I need. Do you know if those registry entries are installed with Windows (if so, which version of windows, etc...) So, in general operatiosn that use "Data Manipulation Language". So, not to use siply Client-Server architecture, there will Client-WebSrvice/s - Database Server. PitbullPT Data Synchronization with Client/Server
Normally, client/server applications are developed with the client requesting operations on the server (e.g. AddCustomer, ModifyCustomer, DeleteCustomer, DoSomethingWithCustomer, etc). There's usually also a client side cache so lookup and other frequently used data are loaded into the client. Moving towards developing smart clients, the cache is made robust so it handles synchronization of data with particular synchronization strategies, handling offline mode, etc. With the introduction of SQL Express and assuming all future machines will be preinstalled with SQL Express, could we not write the client as though it's a 1-tier application reading/writing straight to the local SQL Express database and somehow configure SQL Express to d ...Show All
simmons Bold Font or Image Bar in Left Nav? Can it be done?? if Yes, HOW?
I have been asked to find a way to customize Headings under the left NAV. Temporarily, we are using special characters to seperate them from the rest of the sites under them - It looks horrible. We have a few group headings on the left nav that act as headings (non-linkable). We did this to seperate our Left Nav into sections. I am looking for a way to either bold a Heading in the left nav - Or maybe a way to insert an image graphic into the heading box. I have tried a few things, and it looks that in most of the places I try to add an image...it's a free-text box (like the by-line in the article pages). I'm open to ideas. Thanks, Matt Hi, I think the easiest way is to make some change ...Show All
root85 MySite Creation
I have a MOSS 2007 enterprise in a single server environment. Everything is working alright but I would like to create mysites for all users on my network and lock them down prior to the user logging in to the system. I can give them access and permissions to the sharepoint site, but I do not want them to create their mysite themselves. I would like to build the mysite for them; is this possible MySites are created and the creation is initiated by the user. If your looking at creating a certain look and feel you are probably looking at creating some customized site definitions. I dont remember if Todd covered this in his book but teh Developers Guilde to Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 would be a good place to look for information ...Show All

johnb01 Problems with Owner Draw Menus in an out of process ActiveX Document Server
My Document Server is written with C++ MFC and built using VS .NET 2003 and is targetted to WinXP and newer. I’ve now run out of ideas on how to resolve my owner draw problem when an OLE container attempts to render my shared menus. Everything is fine when the keyboard is used to activate the menubar items. This is because the container is using WM_NCPAINT etc to create a real screen drawing context. This context is then passed through to the in place frame of my server where it will succeed in drawing the menu items ( WM_DRAWITEM ) When the menu bar item is clicked on with the mouse, however, the container make use of WM_PRINT, WM_PRINTCLIENT to render to a memory HDC. When this HDC is passed to my out of process serve ...Show All
