FredMunro Changing the content type of a document library
I've created a content type that inherits from the document type, and adds a column, and deployed it via a feature. I wanted this content type to be the only one associated with a document library. So, I removed the "Document" content type, and added "MyContentType" to the document library. I found myself in a situation where clicking "New" in the document library would create an item of MyContentType, but uploading a document would not--in fact, that would create an item of some type that inherited from Folder. After trying almost everything I could think of, I changed the order of how I set up the content types in the document library. That is, rather than deleting "Document", and then adding " ...Show All

rpp Security Trimming - missing configuration?
I have a new out of the box install of MOSS07 up and used it to crawl some legacy SP 2003 sites with Enterprise Search. The problem we're having is security trimming doesn't seem to be kicking in on the results - users are able to get links in the results page to items they don't have security access to (SP still prompts for credentials when the link to that resource is clicked). I have one domain security account as both application identity and primary crawl ID - this ID was given permission to the legacy SP content. The content is indexed but like I said everyone can see it regardless of rights to that resource. I'm having trouble finding articles on troubleshooting/configuring security trimming for MOSS07 - apparently it should w ...Show All

algoaddict Persistent Sharepoint Server Error Events
Hi - I'm running Sharepoint Services 3.0 and am seeing 3 different errors logged every single minute - IDs 6398, 7076, and 6482. Searches on these IDs have shown that other users are seeing them for different reasons. They all have to do with a "lack of storage" somewhere. Below are the pasted contents of 1 of each of these errors: Event Type: Error Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3 Event Category: Timer Event ID: 6398 Date: 1/22/2007 Time: 3:41:17 PM User: N/A Computer: SPNACDEV06 Description: The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.ApplicationServerAdministrationServiceJob (ID 929b1b3b-ef23-4379-915f-33e61709a2d3) threw an exception. Simonsbs Document Library WebPart and Folder Navigation
Hi, I have created a Document Library and am using folders rather than columns for organization. This is largely because when users upload more than one document at a time they are not prompted to tag them with metatdata and then lose thier files amongst the existing documents. It is difficult for them to then find the documents and edit the properties after the fact. With this being said, it is more convenient for them to navigate to the appropriate folder and then upload the multiple documents. The one issue with navigating the folders is with the Document Library Web Part. I can't find a way for them to navigate up a directory. The "Up" button is no longer in the toolbar. The breadcrumbs don't work like they do if you ...Show All
clint 2 abstract vs interface
hi everybody, In my current application, ther is a common fucntionality(method) which can change frequently. Should i use the abstract class or the interface to put the signature of the method (no body )inside. The answer which comes in my mind is interface but then why can't we use abstract instead by just giving the signature of method in the abstract class. Do interfaces or abstract differ in how much memory they consume and also in the performance of the application. Please elaborate on what is to be used prefably in which scenarios as i read many articles but none of them gives indepth knowledge. Regards What about using Interfaces/Abstracts as contracts for WebServices Initially, I ...Show All
djmikke Still unclear on how to use Typed Datasets in BLL...
OK, I have decided to use typed datasets in my data access layer (DAL). So, my question is, do I really need to create a business logic layer (BLL) From what I have read, you can extend the dataset classes in the DAL using partial classes and place business logic there. Doesn't this combine the DAL and BLL into one component Or is there something I'm missing Do you create the BLL and start by referencing the DAL project and inheriting the classes from the DAL and extend the classes there I don't get where one ends and the other starts. OR, if it really makes a difference. ...or do I even know what I'm talking about... Dan Guisinger SharePoint Security - Domain Admin Account
It has come to my attention recently that the domain admin account has full access to each of our sharepoint site collections. i have verified that it is not set up as a site collection "owner". I went into central admin and confirmed it is not a member of the farm administrators group. However, when i select sign in as another user on a site, and use the admin account, i still have full access to every site collection it seems. currently we are running wss version 3 and sql 2000 on one server. is there another reason this might occur or something else i should check out the only other thing i can think of is the account i setup to use and edit the databases is the domain admin account. but i thought by default the admins grou ...Show All
