  • Raja Pratap story about architect designing sidewalks

I hope this is not too annoying a question. I remember story (perhaps apocryphal) about an architect who had designed a building that had a grass courtyard. Having finished the building, the architect was asked by an associate where the sidewalks would be placed in the courtyard. The architect answered to wait a year, see where pathways were established by people who walked the courtyard, and use those pathways to guide the design of the sidewalks. If this is a real story, can anyone point me to the architect and the source of the story. Thank you in advance. >>>bill<<< Sounds apocryphal. The story makes the point that one of the critical parts of design is figuring out how people wi ...Show All

  • AlexZheng a good book for me

Hello everyone, Well, now I have grown in my company and I will have a few more responsabilities, I will be project leader of small projects, and I would like to ask you for a good book for me. Perhaps one about methodology, agile or XP, about team system, or perhaps about enterprise patterns or something. Well, waiting for your suggestions Thanks in advance. Here are some I'd recommend, all of them excellent books, on some of the topics you mention: Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture, by Martin Fowler Refactoring, by Martin Fowler The pragmatic programmer, by Andrw Hunt and David Thomas Professional Software Development, by Steve McConnell Agile Software Development, by Alistair Cockburn Beyond Software Archi ...Show All

  • Jamie Thomson Search Scope with pdf files metadata

Hi All: I face the following issue with MOSS 2007 search: I have a site column DocumentType attached to a document library. I have both word and pdf documents in the library, and in all the documents, I have set the column value to UserGuide. I have mapped this crawled property to a managed property (docytype) and created a search scope with the rule: docutype = UserGuide. If I search for the word UserGuide (without any scope), both the word and pdf documents are listed. This shows that the metadata has been crawled in both file types. When I use the Search Scope and search for words in the pdf file, MOSS is not showing any results. However, if I use the same Search Scope and search for words in the word files, MOSS is pr ...Show All

  • Andrei Kuzmenkov Implementing DTO's in.Net

Hi, Can anyone suggest some good approaches to build Data Transfer Objects using .Net custom classes. Also would like to make them bindable friendly. Meaning when I have an array of entities and would like to bind the same to a datagrid. what interfaces do I need to implement to make it bindable to the datagrid. Thanks Sai First you should definately read Martin Fowler's Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture if you have not already - there is a whole pattern/chapter on DTOs with example implementations in Java. The Java code is easy to understand and translate into C# or VB.NET. Since the DTOs are just data holders you might be tempted to just create a class with some public members. For d ...Show All

When trying to install InfoPath 2007 and Forms Server 2007 I am getting a error: "The Lanuage Pack of this system is not supported by your system". • Quick x Scope Problems with Owner Draw Menus in an out of process ActiveX Document Server

My Document Server is written with C++ MFC and built using VS .NET 2003 and is targetted to WinXP and newer. I’ve now run out of ideas on how to resolve my owner draw problem when an OLE container attempts to render my shared menus. Everything is fine when the keyboard is used to activate the menubar items. This is because the container is using WM_NCPAINT etc to create a real screen drawing context. This context is then passed through to the in place frame of my server where it will succeed in drawing the menu items ( WM_DRAWITEM ) When the menu bar item is clicked on with the mouse, however, the container make use of WM_PRINT, WM_PRINTCLIENT to render to a memory HDC. When this HDC is passed to my out of process serve ...Show All

  • Divided Sky People search on user profiles imported from AD

Hi I configured a full Active Directory import in the Shared Services Administration->User profiles and properties and I was able to get all the AD users imported into the server, however, whenever I search for people, I don't get any results back. Assuming there's a relationship bewtween the two, how do I link Search People to User profiles , or, if these things are unrelated, how do I Search People imported from AD You can restrict the query that SharePoint uses to retrieve users from AD.
