  Hi, I am experencing a data type cast issue in T-SQL, basically our application comtains both numeric and non-numeric data in the same column, I want to retrieve the numeric data only. Assuming a table has one column create table TT(c1 varchar(20) ) and insert 2 rows into the table insert into TT values('100') insert into TT values('test') Now if I want to do numeric comparison on column c1, I will get an error, e.g. select * from TT where c1 >100 because SQL server trying to convert 'test' to a number impcilitly.   I have Varchar column called "Age", which capture patient age. and I am trying to use grouping property of the Age dimension, since it is varchar type, the grouping is messed up, such as 20 - 4, 40 - 5. So I say, ok, I need to cast to int, so I change my age dimension to int, but the fact table need to be changed too, so I did cast(age as int) as Age, however I got error: maxlength applies to string data type only, you cannot set column 'Age' property MaxLength to be non-negative number.   I'm looking to write my own simple SQL Client via TCP/IP. We have some hardware that does not run an OS of sorts, but I can create TCP Connectons. We's like to be able to Query our SQL Server with this hardware. The SQL Servers we are talking to are MS SQL2000 and MS SQL 2005 both via TCP port 1433. We can telnet to the port of the SQL Server. Any resources to the SQL Protocol you could pass along would be great.   I am creating a dynamic DSN in a report to pick which database to run a query against. I have a fairly simple expression, ="Data Source=MYSQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=ADV_" & Parameters!DBNum.Value When I try to preview the report, I get the following error An unexpected error occured while compling expressions. Native complier return value: '[BC32017] Comma, ')', or a valid expression continuation expected.'. I have also tried it without the parameter, ="Data Source=MYSQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=ADV_1" with the same result. When I use the exact same static DSN it works fine.   Hello. I'm importing some data from an excel file to sql server 2005. I created an Excel Data Source inside my Data Flow Task but it is assuming that the source columns DataType is double-precision float [DT_R8]. It isn't, even though some rows may containg numeric string in the column's cell. If I go to the Data Sources advanded editor, and modify the data type property of the column, SSIS complains the the error output and the source output are not of the same DataType. If I try to change the error output's data type in the advanced editor I get this error: "Property Value".   Hi, i want to import flat file data to sql server. i created a package in vb.net. if the import table column is identity means i got Failure inserting into the read-only column "ID".   I have gotten my production version of SQL locked into single user mode. We recently upgraded to a clustered configeration and when I went to pause the system to get control I was told Pause was not available in a clustered environment. I restarted the service with -m [single user] but couldn't run Enterprise Manager as it appeared to take the only user slot and not give me one. Then I hit on startingup with Query Analyzer and that worked but now how do I get it back into multi-user mode. I placed the -m in the settings using Enterprise manager; could I stop the service and restart at the cmd prompt using -f [minimal config] and get Enterprise manager running Any assistance appreciated. How can i do this on 7.0 You're in luck - AFTER triggers in SQL Server 2000 are regular triggers in SQL Server 7.0, so just create a trigger, and it will fire after the insert or update. SQL Server 2000 adds INSTEAD OF triggers, but that's not what you want.   Hi, I have an application that involves 3 components one of which is Reports. My system's configuration: SQL 2000 - Default instance SQL 2005 - Named instance (Instance1). I provide the user with an option of selecting the SQL Server instance. If the user chooses Instance1, then I need to deply the reports in SQL 2005. The exceptions encountered during installation are logged in the Event log.   Hi all, in my report, I am using a subreport which takes two parameters and in my main report there is a filed named "ProcessCode". My problem is that, this subreport should be only run if ProcessCode is 11 oder 29. Otherweise there is no need to run subreport. the column of subreport will be shown as emtpy. I know, I can return empty string from my stored procedure if the processcode is not 11 or 29, but I would like to learm, is it possible to not render subreport according to condition Thanks in advance.     Try to use iif() function for your subreport.   I have been assisgned the task of upgrading to sql 2005. I was given a dell poweredge 1850 and the sql standard edition 2005 w/ 5 cal disk. I have only used sql a little to make data changes in tables. My boss expects me to figure this out on my own which I like to do anyway. I remember he mentioned when I am ready he would tell me the path to a backup. I guess there is a server on the network that is only in place in the case of the current live one going down.
