Niros window.close in javascript
I'm writing an extension using ATL/COM. When clicking on the button, a new browser window with a form pops up, and when the form is submitted, the server returns a page to close the window using javascript window.close method. The pop up window is created through CoCreateInstance function, and thus when window.close is called from script, the browser prompts the user whether let the script close window or not. Yes we can set window.opener to null in ie6, but this no longer works in ie7. I tried to process the WindowClosing event, but it seems only be fired when the window being closed by script is created by script. I looked at del.icio.us's script in the pop up window, and found that they're just using one line: window.close() ...Show All
Victor Chacon speedfan??
SpeedFan - whts it SpeedFan is a freeware program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers with hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. info for those hard disks that support this feature and show hard disk temperatures too, if supported. SpeedFan supports SCSI disks too. SpeedFan can even change the FSB on some hardware (but this should be considered a bonus feature). At the lowest level, SpeedFan is an hardware monitor software that can access digital temperature sensors, but its main feature is that it can change fan speeds (depending on the capabilities of your sensor chip and your hardware) according to the temperatures inside your pc, thus reducing noise. The long awaited Speed ...Show All
Goran _ I can't believe most Windows users don't know how to use toolbars, OMG.
This is most irritating. Almost all of Windows users in my company don't know how toolbar works. They don't know they can enable toolbar, take out toolbar, customize toolbar, and not even the simplest of all, move toolbar around. Toolbar is so simple, standard, and flexible. And yet, they don't know how to use it. And now, I think that's the main reason why IE7 doesn't support moveable toolbar, and that pisses me off even more. Argh. There are people using computers everyday that are unaware of some of the most basic computer functions. I went into a staffing company where their own secretarial staff were unable to pass the secretarial testing they required to place secretaries in other businesses. The t ...Show All
Luis Esteban Valencia Muñoz WDS 2.6 does not index mailbox and PST while Office Group Policy is used
We have a MS Office 2003 Group Policy (GPO) that turns on many of the Outlook controls. (This is not the GP for Desktop Search...but for Outlook, Word, etc.). Windows Desktop Search 2.6.5000.5401 will not index emails in the Exchange mailbox and the Outlook PST files until I "turn off" the Office GPO. Can you help me determine which particular policy/rule within that Office GPO is affecting WDS And what might we do so that we can keep our Outlook/Office GPO as it is but have WDS be "accepted" and get past the GPO rules Thanks. Abe1816 - that is helpful information. In order for WDS to index Outlook it must install and run an add-in. Could you do me a favor and d ...Show All

Michael Tripp When WDS 3.0 beta and 2007 Office Issue
I installed 2007 Office and received a message that I would need to install WDS 3.0 Beta. I installed it and rebooted, but all of the WDS Icons, etc. are gone. I no longer have anyway to access the search. There are no icons, no search bar, nothing, so I have no way to get at the search functionality. Yes, indeed that was the problem. Thanks for your help. Hello dnr, It sounds like Office pointed you to the old WDS 3.0 beta preview. The WDS preview had no user interface with the exception of the serach box in Outlook 2007. I would suggest you uninstall your current version of WDS and install WDS 3.0 beta 2. This version comes with a full user interface. Hexadecimator AdBlock for IE
I write something like adblock for ie. It has to parse the page, find unwanted ads and replace them with wanted ads. The problem i faced is when to parse and what to parse. My first idea was to do parsing in a temporary mime filter, but in this case there is a lot of "unresolved" code (internal/external scripts that can modify documen and are executed after parsing). It is also possible to make filter for image/*, load wanted ad myself and return it in filter's Read method but i have to modify ad's "href" so the problem is not solved completely. Also, this approach does not work for activex(flash). After that i tried to parse DOM from BHO, but in this case unwanted objects are displayed for a while before I can replace ...Show All
starbukk Dynamically setting form action?
Hi All, I often use form.action or form.setAttribute("action",strURL) to set the action of a form using script based on user input. I note that in IE7 this seems to be ignored. No error is generated and the form submits to the original URL. Im using urls within the original domain so there shouldnt be any security issues Am I using the wrong method to do this I notice there are some options in the Security section arround scripting but (obviously) I will require a solution that works with default settings for production. Thanks in advance Todd ...Show All

Visualbrin Cross-site/Cross-platform Data Access on Intranet Dilemma
Here's my predicament: We are running an intranet page that needs to hit two intranet servers, http://jupiter/ and http://neptune/ . The master page is on jupiter, which is a J2EE environment. This page needs to make another AJAX-like HTTP request when a button is clicked to pull info from neptune, which is an IIS/ASP environment. Making the request to neptune inside the jupiter page causes an annoying message: This page is accessing information that is not under its control. This poses a security risk. Do you want to continue Why am I being prompted like this, and how do I resolve this Thanks for the feedback, Eric.
