volkerm WDS3 beta memory issues
Hi, I have several problems with my tablet. The problems involved memory usage and throwing everything into a SYSTEM Idle Process. The insane memory usage was found in searchindexer.exe, keyboardsurrogate.exe, and tabtip.exe. The memory usage for searchindexer.exe tends to be between 94 to 184 megs. (although unrelated to this topic, tabtip.exe hovered around 24 megs except for strange spikes to 150 megs at which point the system would freeze and keyboardsurrogated hovers around 17 megs, but I've seen it at 83 megs.) I have been able to lock-up my tablet in less than a minute and within the execution of 1 program. Typically, it locks after I attempt launching 2 or more programs, say firefox and explorer, or outlook and spysweeper. I've ...Show All

John Woodiwiss Microsoft and its 'new' Halo: Wars RTS Game, and Derelict Studios
Well, as most have probably heard, Microsoft has come out with a 'new' Real Time Strategy game called Halo: Wars, a game to be made for the X-Box 360. I quote 'new', because it is not a new idea, nor shall all the credit go to those people who work in Microsoft. A Modification for the game C&C Generals, called Halogen, was a mod in the works for approximatly 3 years, where people from the community pitched in numerous hours of work and labour for the good of the community, and a playable release was soon to come for those of us desperate to download it. Microsoft came in close to before the release and forced the memebers of Derelict Studios to close down Halogen and halt all progress on the game, and close down the ...Show All
rohit_c4u Vista Viruses - The Next Generation
Sometimes I just have to write because tonight I received a PHD in Vista Viruses. Yes, a new generation of viruses is evolving and this was the meanest nastiest virus I’ve ever seen. Perhaps, not deliberately it crashes the system on boot. The virus is an emulated service with a driver attached to the file system as an alternate stream. If you can stay awake I learned an immense amount tonight and I think people will be interested in this one. I have a new Vista RTM Ultimate system with Avast Virus protect. I opened an “iffy” file from the net thinking that if it had a virus that virus detection would catch it. How wrong could I be My system instantly black screened and I saw system32:lzx32.sys wiz by which didn’t lo ...Show All
Jakein2006 Zune and the iPod
I've been following the Zune announcements fairly closely here at work. If you follow my blog, you'll see that I'm pretty passionate about media technologies, and recently went through the pain of migrating away from iPod/iTunes and onto Yahoo Music/Gigabeat S (Portable Media Center). Here the blog category where I talk about it: http://blogs.msdn.com/joemorel/archive/category/13772.aspx Now Zune is in the mix. It looks pretty neat, but I'm not sure if people are really going to go for the whole WiFi thing. I'm just not sure that I want to listen to the same music as the person sitting next to me on the bus. What do you think OK - I thought I saw EB Games in the US as well. We certainly have them in Australia. ...Show All
yoshikatsu Zune Battery Life
I was on the phone with Microsoft Tech Support today for the Zune skipping issue and he mentioned to me that my Zune battery will last alot longer if I charge it with the USB ports on the back of my PC versus the USB ports on the front. This doesn't make much sense to me as I kinda figured that when the battery is full it's full regardless of how it was re-charged. Does anyone know anything regarding this I have read on some MP3 related forums that some people have had problems charging players from some USB ports due to low power output on the port or the number of connected devices on an expansion hub. He could be making the assumption that your front USB ports are on a bus powered hub and heavily ...Show All

Jarod.Net CS 2007 Site Configuration
Hi All, I am a beginner and learner in CS 2007. I have a task of configuring a website in CS 2007 and going live with it. The existing site has been developed and configured using the following: PHP, MySQL, Joomla (freeware Content Management System) and VirtueMart (Open Source E-Commerce solution to be used together with Joomla, Content Management System). Now the task is to configure this similar site into CS 2007. Since CS 2007 uses SQL Server, I was wondering, do I need to transfer the database from MySQL And also simultaneously, do I need to develop almost all the web pages and the functionality in asp.net from php in order to host it on IIS The trouble with me is that I have been working on Microsoft Technologies all my c ...Show All

Cem DEMiRKIR Tooltips
I'm trying to get a tooltip on to an IE toolbar button in c++, non-MFC. I've found plenty of MFC solutions but am unable to adapt them to non-MFC. JIM.H. IE7 FTP Security Issue
I have run into a security hole in my ftp site that has only now become a problem with IE7. The structure of my ftp directory involes several streaming media folders and a Client folder in the root directory. The contents of the client folder and its children are all password protected. Inside these folders I upload content for my clients to view approvals and allow them to upload files for my own use. The root directory has read-only permissions for everybody because of the streaming content I am hosting. In the past when a client logs into their ftp folder, the password protected nature of the client folder prevents them from moving up in the hierarchy outside of their folder. In IE7 however, I have found that a client can now leave he ...Show All
