Visual Studio 2008 (Pre-release) Chunking Channel sample update?
We are currently using the Feb CTP Chunking Channel sample (with appropriate adjustments to compile and run with the Sept CTP). However, we've started getting new mystery exceptions with the Sept CTP from code that isn't called by us. The exceptions do not happen regularly, and appear to be caused by timeouts within code that we do not control. I suspect that custom channel implementation requirements have changed rather significantly since Feb and was wondering if there was any plan to update this sample Is anyone else using the chunking channel without issue Any assistance would be appreciated! Visual Basic how do I find the default icon for a given file extension?
I am displaying a list of file names and would like to display the default icon for the file type (determined from the extension). How do I find the default icon to display ummm. at the risk of seeming stupid .. why can't you make a blank file with the extension you want and then do: Dim ico As Icon = Drawing.Icon.ExtractAssociatedIcon(iconfile) e.Value = ico.ToBitmap ...worked for me :-) ...Show All
Visual Studio 2008 (Pre-release) Service Configuration Editor and custom bindings
Is it possible to have the Service Configuration Editor correctly represent an XmlDictionaryReaderQuotasElement property on a custom message encoder in a custom binding I'd like to have Reader Quotas display in the editor with all its properties read/write, as usually seen on a standard binding or message encoding; instead I get a read-only property that displays only the type of the element. I'm using the GZipMessageEncoding binding element from the SDK with a few changes. The config as shown below works when the configuration is applied to the binding element, but it would be nice to have the editor show the Reader Quotas property correctly. <customBinding> <binding name="compressedBinding"> <gzipMess ...Show All

Visual C++ Program runs slower when compiled with Visual Studio 2005 (in Release with optimization)
Hey, I have a performance problem with the new Visual Studio 2005. My code (which is a genetic algorithm) is 3 times slower when compiled under Visual Studio 2005 compared to when I was compiling it under Visual Studio 2003. With Visual Studio 2003, it used to run in 3.0639 seconds, and now it runs in 9.0031 seconds. I run both code in Release. I tried every optimization option, and adding the /D_SECURE_SCL=0 compiler command to the project options with only minor differences. Is there any other way to get back to the speed Visual Studio 2003 It is a bit absurd to upgrade to a new compiler and get lesser performances. Thanks a lot!!! Game Technologies: DirectX, XNA, XACT, etc. LetterBoxing and/or splitscreening
Hi all :), I was looking to 'embed' a 16:9 surface into a 4:3 window so that i can render in 16:9 on a 4:3 fullscreen display. Is there a straightforward way to do this in XNA Otherwise i was thinking of just Rendering to a Texture in 16:9 and sticking that to an appropriately sized sprite and rendering that within the original window. Obviously thats a roundabout way of doing it and has some overheads that i'd like to avoid, so its just not the most elegant solution. I was wondering if there was a better way of doing it Like is it at all possible to restrict the graphics device to a subregion of the original buffer That would be cleaner and would also be useful perhaps for splitscreening too. Game Technologies: DirectX, XNA, XACT, etc. Unicode and Bitmap Fonts
We will have access to System.Text with unicode on the Windows platform. But for cross-compatibility, a bitmap font should be used, right Or do you have something up your sleeve Bitmap fonts are great, because you don't mess up your layout with them, but to make international programs, supporting Asian languages, would be hell if I had to texturize every Japanese and Chinese pictogram. Will there be some solution Maybe integrated into the Content Pipeline I understand if there won't be in the beta, but what about the final product I wrote about this on my blog yesterday, and finally got around to posting some followups to it earlier this evening. There are two posts: One Codepage to rule them all : Unicode, C#, XNA & ...Show All

Visual Basic VB2005 ConfigurationManager not declared
In VB2005, how do I read the values in the AppSettings section of my App.Config file In VB2003 I could use ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings, but it’s obsolete. I added Imports System.Configuration in the references tab of the property page, but I can’t use the ConfigurationManager. It says it’s not declared. ConfigurationManager is located within System.Configuration. In order to use it you’ll need to make sure in that addition to having the System.Configuration.dll referenced by the project, that you are either using its full name or have ‘Imports System.Configuration’ at the top of your code file. ...Show All
Visual Studio Team System Use of Remaining Availability in calculations in Project 2003
Hi All, When you click on View -> Resource Usage, you get a sheet with all your resources + on the right side you get the calendar. In this calendar you can choose to see the "Remaining Availability" of a resource per day. I would like to know where I can retrieve this per day information so that i can use it in a calculaltion on the sheet found on the left. The idea is that I need to know how much time ( in hrs ) the resource would be available for a given period (difference between two dates). Please do let me know if this is possible. Thanks, This looks like a Project specific question. Try posting it to Project newsgroup - http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/topic.aspx url=/msdn-files/028/201/131/topic.xml ...Show All

Visual FoxPro Memo field conversion
I am not a Foxpro developer so I'm throwing myself on the kindness of my foxpro brethern. I'm converting data from a foxpro system into Oracle and have run into a problem with a memo field. The data appears to be stored in a .fpt file and I haven't a clue as to how to get to the data and and convert it (including the foreign key) into a text file, excell or any other format that I can use. Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Windows Forms loading large image in picturebox
Hello. I'm working with large pictures (one of them is 4021x3123) and I want to load them inside o PictureBox so the user interacts with it (draws on it). The problem is after I load the picture, when I use the scroolbar to move around it, it has that flicker effect and also the interaction with my application has a delay (it takes about 1 sec for the other controls to react). I'm guessing my problem appers because of the large picture I'm loading, so is there a way not to load the entire picture inside the PictureBox and only load that portion of the picture that is currently dispayed by the PictureBox Is there a better solution to that Thanks. PS: I'm using C#. Thanks. I'll take a look at it. ...Show All
