  • Game Technologies: DirectX, XNA, XACT, etc. 3d Resource creation - Modeling and Animating

    Hi, I'm looking for a good application to model/skin and animate with. I tried the SoftImage ModTools, but I couldn't figure out how to make the DirectX Export functionality to work correctly. Does anyone have any other suggestions (I'm looking for free apps, as I'm just a hobbiest atm) Thanks, Terry Come on man ! use a copy of 3dsMax while you are learning. You will have time to pay for it when you make a professional use of it. Im sure Autodesk has nothing to complain ’bout this criteria. They are also interested in people learning 3dsMax (although it’s for free), because that way there will be more professionals using it also, and those definetly have to pay. ...Show All

  • Visual Studio Tools for Office Windows App launching a Word Project (document)

    I have read alot of information about what I want to do, and no one has offered me a clear cut solution. I have seen a few posts that come close to this, and then they do not state how they did it, or which is my beset solution. I hope this is not off topic, or too vague but this is my best hope for an answer so please help. I have read all FAQ and read this first, and every article about Interop and the new VSTO SE projects (really cool, but more external communication is a must). I have a multi-tier Windows Application, (Client Tier DataTier, BusinessObject / Application Logic Tier) in the client when I have a record (a contact) and that contact has a linked word document (a resume for that person). I know the very easiest way to laun ...Show All

  • .NET Development I'm fairly certain I'm losing my mind....

    For the past 3 days, I've been spilling my brains all over my keyboard in an effort to do something that should be ridiculously simple.... What's really driving me crazy is the fact that I've done it before... Here it is: I have a datatable in MS Access. In an effort to copy all of it's records to a table in SQL that I can access and better manipulate, I created an SQL Database in my Visual Basic program and made a comparable SQL Table. I gave all the columns identical names and comparable data values as the columns in the Access table. Now, I just want to copy the records from the Access table directly into the new SQL table. Here's the catch. I'm doing all of this through the DESIGN interface because the last line of ...Show All

  • Visual Studio Tools for Office Managing documents from Custom Task Pane

    I have been experimenting with VSTO 2005 SE and Office 2007 and would appreciate if someone could help me with the following: I would like to open different documents using a custom task pane and switch between these documents. I can create and open the first document. When it comes to the second document, it gets created on a different window (where my custom task pane is not visible). From the immediate window in the document VBA I can easily switch to another windows via Application.WIndows(index).Activate command. However I can't achieve the same result through the Add-In. Furthermore, the second document does not respond to the Ribbon button that toggles its display. How can I programmatically switch to the sec ...Show All

  • Visual Studio Tools for Office Who knows the purpose of the 'ApplyShutdownFix' Outlook property ?

    Who knows the purpose of the 'ApplyShutdownFix' Outlook property, which is not documented When I set its value to false, the Outlook shutdown is longer than as usually. I post this message because I develop an addin that uses inter processing communication between the Outlook addin and some other .NET applications. To communicate, I use AssignHandle / ReleaseHandle. My bug is that Outlook crashes on shutdown because I am not able to release the assigned handle before its shutdown. When the Outlook "Shutdown" event fires, Outlook seems already closed and my ReleaseHandle arrives too late. I have posted questions about it on this thread : http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=863522&SiteID=1 ...Show All

  • Game Technologies: DirectX, XNA, XACT, etc. Torque Game Engine

    After some carefull thought, I have decided to develop a game using C++ with an existing open source engine. Torque ( http://www.garagegames.com/products/1 ) was one reccomended option, and I was just wondering what everyone else thinks about it. Is it DirectX or what Ah, so the Torque Shader Engine is also a game engine Much like TGE, but better, one might say :) ...Show All

  • .NET Development System.IO.File.Encrypt()

    I would like to know what specific encryption algorithm (TripleDES, SHA1, RSA, etc.) this method uses. MSDN says: "Both the Encrypt method and the Decrypt method use the cryptographic service provider (CSP) installed on the computer and the file encryption keys of the process calling the method." Can anyone explain to me what they mean by the CSP installed on the computer and if there is any additional documentation this Thanks! This is the default encryption algorithm that is also available through the properties window of a file. You can let Windows encrypt the file. This is an NTFS feature. The algorithm are the following: DESX (Windows 2000 onward), Triple DES (Windows XP onward) ...Show All

  • Visual Basic ClickOnce autoupdate question

    I have an application that I published to a local network folder with ClickOnce. I set the autoupdate option to check once every 7 days. If I publish an update of the same apps and same network folder , do I need to keep the old version in that same path, or do I have to remove it first then publish, so that it will automatically pick up the new version Hi, you don't have to do anything, just publish your application to the publish location. Just make sure the new version is higher than the previous one [Visual Studio will by default increment this version with each successfull publishing]. All version are kept in the same published location, safely stored in their folders (marked by their versio ...Show All
