Visual C++ How do I make a modal window
I've made a number of windows and I'd like a few of them to be modal (they will appear when different events are triggered and remain open until the user closes them). I am using Win32 and I thought there was a flag like WS_BORDER that I could use. Any suggestions A modal window is essentially one that disables its parent window, and enables it when it is closed. If you are not using a dialog box, then you just need to do this yourself and achieve modality. ...Show All

Hi Folks, I'm receiving an error when i'm trying to setup a maintenance plan. I'm getting weird errors (and cannot continue) and i'm thinking it's related to a 32 bit error i received during installation on a 64 bit edition. Background We have a sql server behind hosted on a dedicated 64 bit box out of SanFran. The hosting company installed the 32 bit version of SqlServer 2005 standard on the box and I requested them to remove it and put the 64 bit edition on. They removed the 32 bit edition and installed the 64 bit edition. So far so good. I installed sp1 and that was fine. I then tried to start a MAINTENCE PLAN and was denied -> the component was not installed. I've asked them to install th ...Show All

Audio and Video Development aquiring IDirect3DDeviceManager9 interface from within a Media Player Plug-ins
I would like to develop a media player add-ins for vista to control a custom functionality exposed by a display driver (dxva 2.0 decode extention). To do that, I need access to IDirect3DDeviceManager9 interface from within the plug-in compoent. Is it possiable to aquire this interface from with in the plug-in component How Gotcha. Unfortunately, though, if you need this to happen when playing back in WMP (as opposed to a playback application over which you have more control), I'm not thinking of any way to get a non-decoder MFT to see the D3D manager. The reason is that, since WMP is the application and you'd just be supplying the MFT, there's no way to get the MFT involved in any way other than the d ...Show All
Visual Studio Express Editions Retrieving variable data from a custom class.
I have a set of textboxes that will be used to gather two dates: a start date and an end date. When the user presses the command button the validation for the two textboxes run. If there are no errors the next form opens and the current form closes. What I need is to access the "Date" form's button variables (sDate, eDate) to use in the custom class. Below is some of the code that I am using for the "Date" form. public partial class frmDateRange : Form { public frmDateRange() { InitializeComponent(); } private void txtStartDate_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (txtStartDate.Text != "") txtEndDate.Enabled = true; } private void txtEndDate_T ...Show All
Visual Studio Team System System.Description Storage
How can I retrieve data from System.Description fields of my TFSWarehouse database Or where can I find the data Thanks in advance. I do not recommend accessing this data directly as the schema might change in later versions without notice. The DB schema is not a publicly supported interface of the system. If you do need the data directly from the backend, the System.Description data would be stored in the TFSWorkitemtracking DB in the WorkitemLongTexts table. You would need to pick up rows with FldID = 52, the field id of the System.Description table. Thanks, Amit Dev, Team Foundation Server ...Show All

SQL Server Scheduled subscriptions don't work (but Event-driven ones do) for NS Newsletter sample
Hello, I am using the Newsletter sample bundled with Notification Services (using SQL 2005 SP1) When I create Scheduled subscriptions using the 'SubscriptionManagementWeb' app that ships with the sample, then copy an Events.xml file to the watch folder, I never get an alert (i.e. I set the time to now + 5 minutes, wait, never receive). When I create an Event-driven subscription, on the other hand, and copy an Events.xml file to the watch folder, I do successfully get a notification. I also created my own separate NS application, and it has the same problem as the sample. Event-driven subscriptions work, but Scheduled ones do not. Any ideas TIA, Alex Hi I don't know if you have ch ...Show All

Visual C++ Getting garbage setting dialog box text
Hi Folks; I'm trying to set the text of a dialog box with SetDlgItemText. As an example I'm trying: SetDlgItemText(hwnd, IDC_F1, "Some text"); where IDC_F1 is defined as the ID for an edit box. What I'm getting is just garbage and I thought maybe it was my font but I've set it do Courier New, size 8 which I thought was pretty standard. Maybe someone could shed some light on my sitation.
