Visual Basic VB.net - importing .txt file into.mdb file and getting jet database error.
Its the strangest thing. I have a listbox where the user can select the file name from the test folder to populate an access db. This file would always be on N:\test. I always get "The microsoft jet engine database cannot open the file ". It is already opened exclusively by another user or you need permission to view its data" If you see below i am never changing the folder location (bold)- Just messing around...i noticed I can select the file off C:\test to populate the database in N:\test... it will work fine! But the fileloc would be the same regardless of whether i select the file from N or C! Because I am only selecting the file name not folder location. So - if I select off C: fileloc = testfile.txt and it p ...Show All
SQL Server Connect vb express to SQL2005 Developer ed?
Excuse the cross post (to VBexpress fourum) but maybe someone here will have a different take have searched all around can't seem to see how to configure a SQL2005 developer ed so I can use vb express to develop a local front end. keep getting "the user instance login flag is not supported on this version of sql server" I have configured the .net framework via aspnet_regsql.exe. Also I configured the "Machine.config" file. but so far no luck. Selecting sql2005 as the server thru the add new database connection in advanced area yields the error message surely there is away. So far still no joy, While Scotty indicates that the connection to SQL2005 is intentionally hampered other posters indicate that ...Show All
.NET Development Does anyone know the reason for this error.
Hello, I'm getting an error while trying to read XML into a dataset and I was wondering if anyone knew what the error might be. Here is an example of the data causing the error... the error is an Expected End Element error. <data>--- summary </data> It's the --- that looks to be iffy, when it's removed the data imports fine. I was wondering if the import is seeing the >--- as a comment or something. Thanks How can one send such a message and expect a solution Where is the text of the error message Where is the text of the xml file If enogh data is not provided so that other people can reproduce the issue, how can one hope a solution will be found This is an example how *not* to ask for help! ...Show All

Visual C# generics in constructors
Hello, I have a question about generics in constructors. Assume I have two constructors, e.g.: public Constructor1(string param1, string param2) { ... } public Constructor2(T param1, string param2) { ... } This will compile without problems (by contrast, I'd get a compile error if I had "public Constructor2(string param1, string param2)" because there would be two constructors with "string, string"). However, if at runtime I call Constructor2 with the generic parameter as a string, I get runtime problems (because Constructor1 and Constructor2 cannot be distinguished). Does anyone know how to deal with this in a clean way I know that I could, for example, change Constructor2 to something like "Constructor2(T param1 ...Show All
Visual Studio 2008 (Pre-release) WCF Client blues (MSDN Subscriber)
Hello. I have been trying to write a WCF client to consume a java-based web service secured by Apache WSS4J but have not been successful. The web service requirements are: 1. Must be accessed via https (i.e. SSL). 2. Request must use SOAP 1.1 format. 3. The SOAP Body in the request must be signed, with the BinarySecurityToken (X509 certificate) embedded in the headers, per WS-Security 1.0 spec. 4. However, the web service itself does NOT sign the responses. So, the client must NOT expect the response to have any WS-Security headers in it. First off, how would you implement your WCF client given the above requirements If only someone can answer this question, I'd be in heaven.  ...Show All
Visual Studio Team System Takes too long to expand a folder
I've got a DBPro project that contains over 1500 tables. When I expand the 'Tables' folder in solution explorer it takes about 20 minutes until I get a response. This is just an example - there are loads of things that take too long (about 3 mins ago I right-clicked on a function and selected 'View in Schema View' - and I'm still waiting ). Even right-clicking on the project in order to do a build takes a good 20 seconds. Checking-in all items to TFS has to be done overnight. I'm on a pretty beefy machine as well. P4 3.4GHz. 2GB RAM. Hyperthreaded. Obviously this is due to the ridiculously large number of objects but it is still a pain. Is there anything that can be done within the product to speed all this stuff up I gue ...Show All

Visual C# How to use multiple fonts in single table in word doc
I'm using the office tools suite to create a word document w/ a C# gui. In my document I create a table and then place text into the table. This table is only 1 x 1 and contains only text. It looks like this The problem I'm having is that I can't use/modify different fonts or sizes within this single 1x1 table. The "supplier", "product tested", testing date", and "Test Engineer" string are hard coded and static and need to be bold and bigger text. The other info is obtained from 4 text boxes from my gui input. These values should be smaller in text size and not bold. Any help or thoughts on this solution would be helpful. Visual Studio Tools for Office Converting Office documents to PDF using csharp
hi, Please get me code snippet for converting excel and powerpoint document into pdf using csharp . I have installed VSTO 2005 Second Edition.exe as well as Plugin SaveAsPDFandXPS thanks in advance Please ask this question in the object model group specific for each of the applications. These are the better resources for questions that aren't concerned specifically with the VSTO technology. Note that you should simply ask how it's done, using the object model. The answer will likely be a VBA code-snippet, but that can be "translated" fairly easily to C#. If you have difficult with turning VBA into C#, you can ask for assistance in the office.developer.automation newsgroup. Please see the " Please Read First " mes ...Show All
Internet Explorer Development IE7, OE6 Printing problems with headers
Having an intermittent problem printing To: From: CC: Subject: Attachments: headers on emails. Usually happens with larger emails or emails with large attachments or emails that have been replied to or forwarded from other people. Have installed Generic/text printer and sent the email to this printer but sometimes the headers are still missing even printing this way. I have if I open the offending email and highlight just one or two words in the text of the email eg Dear John and then print the email using my HP printer (not as text on Generic printer) - the headers then print and so does the selected words. Don't suggest using Outlook as often we only print the first page of emails as we already have the rest of the email on file especial ...Show All

It's easy to add the contacts gadget to your web sites - just reference the .js files on dev.live.com, copy one channel.htm file to your web server, and write a little code to construct the contact gadget and respond to its callback events. More details can be found here: http://dev.live.com/contactgadgets I'll be posting articles and code samples over the next few days on my blog . Software Development for Windows Vista ManualWorkflowSchedulerService, Event and HttpContext in ASP .Net
hi, I'm trying to write a Pageflow in ASP .net with a workflow but I've got some issues using the ManualWorkflowSchedulerService. Here is how my program work: -I launch a workflow with a HandleExternalEventActivity -When i click on a button in an ASP .Net page, it sends a ChangePageRequest (my event) - the event is received by the workflow and then a CallExternalMethod sends the url of the next page to the web site. the problem is that when i don't use the ManualWorkflowSchedulerService, when i try to use HttpContext.Current.Response.redirect(url), Current is null. According to this thread: (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=346551&SiteID=1), i must add the ManualWorkflowSchedulerService 1) What i have understood is ...Show All
Visual C# C# Naming Convention and Guidelines regarding "this" keyword
Hi there! In the software factory I'm working for, we're trying to define our C# coding standards. Now, I'm having some problems about the use of the "this" keyword. Our standard says now that "this" should be used only to avoid indentifier names collision (classic in constructors). Now, lot's of people in the factory say that "this" should be used everywhere, even if there is no indentifier name collision. for example: public class Customers: List<Customer> { //members and properties omited. priv ...Show All
