Visual C++ Impossible to track down a linker error
I might be wrong, but it seems to me that the linker reports have become impossibly detailed in VS2005. for example, I get the following linker error (note, this is *one* linker error): ========== filemanagerd.lib(filemanager.obj) : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol "__declspec(dllimport) public: class std::basic_string<char,struct std::char_traits<char>,class std::allocator<char> > & __thiscall std::basic_string<char,struct std::char_traits<char>,class std::allocator<char> >::replace(class std::basic_string<char,struct std::char_traits<char>,class std::allocator<char> >::iterator,class std::basic_string<char,struct std::char_traits<char>,class std::a ...Show All

SQL Server creating a child row with two parents? (in one column)
Hi! How can I make a relation that would let me relate an employee to two departments There is a table with emloyees and each one works in a department and there is a foreign key relation in the child (employees) table to the parent (departments) table. So can an employee work in two departments (it's not impossible to imagine, is it ) And how would I retrieve all the employees of a department Or in other words, if I were working on some kind of software for my local supermarket and they need to keep track of all bills they ever gave out. I would make this products table and this bills table. Then I would create a foreign key column in the products table and fill it with bill_ids from the bills table and make retrieving bill items a simp ...Show All

Audio and Video Development Titleset aspect ratio
Hi - long time listener first time caller. I am working on a disc where the main title is 1080p VC1, but some of the extras are 480i and 4x3. I'm afraid I don't have a copy of the spec. Is there a way I can set the aspect ratio for each title in my playlist This should be set in the VTSI file when you build your content. You can set this in the playlist under MediaAttributeList insert something like <VideoAttributeItem index="1" codec="VC1" sampleAspectRatio="4:3" /> However this may not work: as some titles have defective attributes in their playlists, the Xbox player will use the VTSI information in preference to that in the playlist. Of course a few titles have defective VTSI data too, the ...Show All

Visual Studio VSS 6.0d (SP6) names.dat may be corrupt
Two problems. I can't add new users to the program, and, I tried archiving a database and received the message "File names.dat may be corrupt." The Help for this message said to run Analyze.exe alone (without extensions), then run Analyze.exe -F. I ran Analyze.exe and Analyze.exe -F and the results were no errors. It doesn't seem to see a problem with names.dat yet I still can't perform either of the above tasks. I have tried deleting names.dat and running Analyze.exe but this also did nothing to fix the problem. Thanks in advance. Steve Hi Steve, Yes, the Help/About dialog in VSS Explorer should display the build number. The reason I'm asking is that ...Show All
Windows Live Developer Forums Out of date pictures!!!
Service is a good concept. However, seeing the 3D image of tall buildings thought I would take a look at the landmarks where I work and how they look. I work in the city of London so was wanting to see how the Swiss Re tower (the gherkin) would look. This is located on St Mary Axe. A search here however reveals the old site which had yet to be built on. This must've been years ago meaning the photos are out of date. It wouldn't be such a problem if the building wasn't such an integral part of the London skyline as we know it now! If anyone doesn't know what i'm talking about go to http://www.30stmaryaxe.com/index2.asp and anyone who's been or seen pictures of what little skyline London has will recognise it and hopefully see my point. Connected Services Framework WS-Disovery, WS-MetadataExchange, and UDDI
What is the best way to catalog and publish all the disparate web services in my organization We have lots of different environments and platforms (C, PHP, COBOL, Java, C#, SOAP, XML-RPC) and I'd like to centralize a catalog of these services. UDDI has been around a long time, and I wanted to know if it were still the best practice, or should I be implementing WS-Discovery and WS-MetadataExchange for this purpose, or something else If WS-* is the way to go, and not UDDI, how do I create my service catalog using WCF Thanks, Mark Mark - MEX support is something you will be building in each service you are developing. However Service catalog (repository of services) is something we will be b ...Show All
