Visual C# Determining IIS Options via C#
Hello. For my work, I'm automating system validation to be performed prior to installations of our software. One of the steps is to verify that certain options like "Common Files," "Internet Information Services Snap-IN", and "World Wide Web Server" are installed. I know how to verify this through Add/Remove Windows Components, yet I'm not sure how, or even if it's possible, to verify such things through the use of C# (which I'm writing the program in). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Google is great, but I know how to view and administer services, but it's the components/options within IIS I'm trying to find out. Like if you were to go to Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Add/Rem ...Show All
Visual Studio Team System Import schema for dependent databases
I need to create a SQL 2005 database project for CLR enabled databases using the VS2005 tool for DB professionals. The import fails on cross-database references and domain accounts. Error 15401. How do I import related database schemas The import fails with this error first. Is there a way to ignore domain accounts that only apply to production databases I have 30+ user licensee databases in production that are dependent on the database for ASP.Net membership and an another user database called Assets database ( used to house documents and messages). How can I use the schema compare to push changes to the 30 user databases in production We are using SQL 2005 SP1 with 32 in dev and 64 bit in production ...Show All
Game Technologies: DirectX, XNA, XACT, etc. Telnet with XNA/C#
I have XNA Game Studio installed on top of C#. I am trying to write a telnet client (the way you connect) for the internet's premier chess club, www.chessclub.com . Is this currently possible Telnet is just raw sockets (over port 23 by default), in a previous life I coded a telnet client for Multiple User Domains/Dungeons (MUD) and it's pretty much regular send/receive logic for telnet, what will be more complex will be to get the format right for messages to/from the game server. Visual Basic Adding a line to a text file
Hi, I' am trying to add to a text file that has already text in it. It's a list of nickname's. You right click there name in a channel and it will add the line to the text file. But I can't seem to get it to add a line. Intead it erases what's in the text file and put's in what I add. I tried many things but can't seem to get it. The third parameter which is in Anrej example is set to True is whether it will append textToWrite to the file. If its set to false then it will overwrite the file contents. ...Show All
Visual C# Mouse Wheel Won't Scroll
I have a Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 which works great with every application except Visual Studio 2005. I have to spin the mouse wheel at a very high rate to get any scrolling at all in VS2005. I have the latest Vista drivers installed. There are some known issues with the Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 in Windows Vista, an unofficial workaround you can try is the following: Install the Vista IntelliPoint software: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/windowsvista/support/intellipoint.mspx or Click on the Start Button Start typing Device Manager Open Device Manager Disable the HID Compliant Consumer Control Device ...Show All
Internet Explorer Development Canceling a event in javascript
Hi. I need to cancel an event in JavaScript (the drag events on my document.body), is there someone who know how to do this, I've been searching the inter net for the past few days, but couldn't find anything. Help would be appreciated. Kind regards. Yes, I have tried to cancel the Bubble effect of the event, but here's a more accurate description of my problem, I hope it's more clearly now. The problem is that the event is first and lastly called on the document.body. So I would like to know if there’s a way to remove the event from the body. I have found a way to work around the problem for now, if empty the document.selection then, I don't have the problem, but I'll need this functionality in a later stage of the ...Show All

Community Chat Speed of IDE
I've to deal with a huge project. Working with the IDE is very slow. With Service Pack 1 apparently the situation has a little improoved. Probably I should change my Pc in order to use a faster one. Presently I'm using and AMD Athlon 3000 with 1.5 GB of main memory. Question: his anyone of you using a Multicore CPU I assume with two cores. How much main memory Is it really faster I'm not su much worried about the cost of a new Pc, but to install on it all the software, configuration etc. etc. This is going to take a lot of time. Just to know if it is something worth of it. I have an AMD Turion 64 X2 and it seems to me that the .NET versions are just generally slower than their previous versions. ...Show All
Visual Studio 2008 (Pre-release) Path command list?
I've figured out what some of the letters in a Path.Data xaml string represent (L,H,V = lineTo, C = curveTo, M = moveTo), but is there somewhere I can find a complete reference somewhere E.g. I found "F1" in a path generated by EGD, but I don't know what it does. Thanks, Jonas For the site admin (who does *not* reply within the promised 48 hrs): can you please fix the "Alert me" function and replace this text editor with something less quirky Have a look at: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms752293.aspx (F1 specifies that the geometry should be filled using the NonZero FillRule). ...Show All

Audio and Video Development How to create button in Script
Hi there, I created a basic markup file with a simple div element like this: <div id="container" /> How can I create a new button, change lets say id and style:x and add it to the container from script Cheers, Gunnar In general, structural changes to the DOM will require a re-load via document.load . First you add the node using the W3C DOM APIs, then you reload the document. Something like this: var CORE_NS = " http://www.dvdforum.org/2005/ihd " ; var STYLE_NS = "http://www.dvdforum.org/2005/ihd#style" ; var btn = document.createElementNS(CORE_NS, "button" ); btn.setAttribute( "id" , "dynamic" ); btn.setAttributeNS(STY ...Show All
Software Development for Windows Vista rpcndr.lib not shipped with Platform SDK
My COM app requires rpcndr.lib which does not appear to have been shipped with the Windows SDK - I have to revert to the one that ships with VS.NET 2005.... I can confirm that. I can't imagine what they are doing with the releases, but there is always missing something which I must copy from the previous release in order to compile our project. There are also permanent issues which don't seem to be fixed ever. For example, the mc.exe utility doesn't work without nlsdl.dll, which must be installed separately. Or the manifest tool (mt.exe) - the SDK is still shipped with an old version (5.2.3790.2075), which currupts exe's and dll's. If you run these executables on pre-Vista OS, such as Windows XP, yo ...Show All
SQL Server Dynamic Parameter from another Parameter
Hi all, I have a report with 3 parameters: SelectedDate in datetime StartDate in datetime EndDate in datetime SelectedDate is the date which user can select the date that will pass to a stored procedure to calculate the StartDateValue and EndDateValue and return to the report. Then the values of StartDateValue and EndDateValue will be used as the values in StartDate and EndDate parameters. I managed to get this to work for the first time, what I mean first time is that when the report loads for the first time, it will take the SelectedDate and calculate the StartDate and EndDate values and put it in as default values for those parameters. But if I changed the SelectedDate value again, it will not change the values for StartDate and EndD ...Show All
SharePoint Products and Technologies Apply changes after editing web part properties.
What event do I trap to notify my web part of updated custom properties TIA Dave OK, looks like it hits the property accessors automatically. The other way looks like overriding the GetToolParts() method and inheriting from the "Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.ToolPart" class for your own customtoolpart. You can then override the ApplyChanges() and SyncChanges() methods. Dave ...Show All
