SQL Server A more consistant Web Report Viewer?
Is there another way of displaying reports online that will show the data exactly as it wil be printed A number of things have been causing me problems, such as the fact that the pagination controls do not show the same number of pages that actualy get printed. And some fields in the the report viewer do not line up with their column headers, but on the print outs they do. We used to use Crystal reports, and would like the report viewer to act in a similar manor to their ActiveX report viewer. Any help is greatly apprechiated. Many thanks Matt You can try displaying the EMF yourself, but I would guess that PDF might be more useable since you don't need to actually write an application to dis ...Show All
SQL Server Calling SSIS packages from ASP.NET - Packages with file system tasks end abruptly
I've run into a problem with SSIS packages wherein tasks that write or copy files, or create or delete directories, quit execution without any hint of an error nor a failure message, when called from an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on any other machine than the one where the package was created from. By all indications it appeared to be an identity/permissions problem. Our application involves a separate web server and database server. Both have SQL Server 2005 installed, but the application server originally only had Integration services. The packages are file system-deployed on the application server, and are called using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime methods. For all packages that involve file system tasks, the above problem occurs ...Show All

Software Development for Windows Vista IMediaSeeking only seeks through MIDIs with resolution of 1 second
When I try to seek through a midi file, DirectShow only seeks with the resolution of 1 second. The value passed is in 100ns increments (10^-7) so it takes in values of 10000000, 20000000, 30000000, ... and anything else in between gets rounded down to one of those ... so for example 25000000 will play starting at 2 seconds position. The graph is [SOURCE -->MIDI Parser --> MIDI Rendrer]. "m_ iStartOffset " is the variable that holds the offset. Smart Device Development Migrating from 1.1 to 2.0
Has anyone been able to successfully migrate a 1.1 compact framework app to 2.0, by only using the Visual Studio 2005 wizard I am struggling doing the same, as the references for System, System.Data etc, stay in ver 1.1.4322. They don't go over to 2.0. Has anyone had this experience, and if so, what did you do to fix it Thankyou ...Show All
Software Development for Windows Vista Biggest Vista UI change: dropdown lists now look like buttons
In Vista, a drop down combobox list (CBS_DROPDOWNLIST) now looks exactly like a standard button control (except with a small dropdown arrow on the right). Previously it looked like a CBS_DROPDOWN except it was non-editable. I haven't seen much written about this - why did you decide to make drop down list controls look like buttons In many cases, this makes some dialog boxes look very ugly (especially those with a mix of many dropdown combos, edit controls, buttons, and dropdown lists) Is there a way to force Vista to give me an old style looking dropdown list Some of my users have been complaining or thinking the control is "disabled" i.e. greyed when actually it just looks like a button. They expect it to look like a pre-Vista CB ...Show All

.NET Development DataTables and SQLDataAdapter events can trigger eachother causing additional hits to the Database
I've noticed when doing inserts and updates to a SQL database from a DataTable, the SQLDataAdapter will AcceptChangesDuringUpdate and AcceptChangesDuringFill. This is a great feature, except when the data values come from the database such as a Primary key for a new row or default values when no value was specified by the end user, then this causes another RowChanged event to fire and the Update back to the database is called because the RowState is set to Modified when the DataTable Row is updated with the new values from SQL. I'd like to be able to halt notifications on a DataTable under certain circumstances such as while I'm executing an SQLDataAdapter.Fill(dt) or on some other unknown occasion... Is this currently possible or wi ...Show All
Visual Studio Tools for Office Accessing Word 2007 BuildingBlockEntries
Hello, I would like to programmatically delete a Word Interop BuildingBlock, and am running into several problems. 1. In VBA, I can use this syntax, which works: Dim t As Template Dim bb As BuildingBlock Dim strName As String Set t = ActiveDocument.AttachedTemplate strName = "TestMe" Set bb = t.BuildingBlockEntries("TestMe") '(error if does not exist) bb.Delete 2. Using VB.Net/VSTO, I am unable to use the Word 2007 BuildingBlockEntries collection - can't even get this code to compile. Dim t as Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.Template = Nothing Dim bb as Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.BuildingBlock = Nothing t = doc.AttachedTemplate bb = t.BuildingBlockEntries("TestMe") ...Show All
SQL Server Report Headers vs Page Headers
Hi, this is probably a simple question but I just can't figure it out. I'm using SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 sp1. I'm trying to design a report that displays a particular embedded image on the first page, and then a different one on every subsequent page. I.e full, fancy company logo on the first page, and a trimmed down version on every other. In Crystal, I would have simply used the Report Header and Page Header sections to achieve this - easy. However, in SQL Reporting Services, there is only a Page Header section - therefore whatever I place in the Page Header shows on every page. Now, I know how to stop it displaying on the first page, but I don't know how to display the other image instead. I read in a support forum t ...Show All

Game Technologies: DirectX, XNA, XACT, etc. What's up with deleting posts mech commander downloads?
I just don't get it. My posts have been removed, I mean any <fill in the blank> could just google for the keywords and get a bunch of legit game sites that host the shared source code (since it was released for free) and yet on these forums it's all hush hush untill MS fixes the link What gives Yes, But it is not related to XNA Game Studio at this time. From our website: MicrosoftR XNA Build is a tool and set of technologies which will help game studios manage the growing complexities of their game content builds. Visual Studio Equivalent for <see langword="null"/>
Hi, NDoc used to have an extremely cool feature that allows you to include phrases like 'null reference ( Nothing in Visual Basic)' in your code without typing it all the time. It's documented in http://ndoc.sourceforge.net/content/tag_see.htm. I have noticed that these special tags don't seem to work in sandcastle. Is there an equivalent feature for this somewhere If not, could this feature be added because it is extremely useful and not just for null. Regards, Michael Looks like in the September 2006 CTP the langwords are at least made bold. Any thoughts to expanding them as mentioned in a previous post ...Show All

Visual Studio 2008 (Pre-release) IList Best Practice
Hi, I'm creating an operation that returns generic IList implementation (Collection or List). The proxy class generated returns an array of the generic type. I would like to know the best practice of doing this. Can svcutil be tweaked to return the collection or list Or am I stuck with arrays Thanks! Whenever the return data type is a generic collection of T, the serialized version of that is typically going to serialize as an array of T. Its pretty easy to translate between an array of T and IList<T> or Collection<T>, etc especially given the ToArray() method that converts List<T> into an array of T. So you can use an overloaded List<T> constructor that takes an array of T as the constructor para ...Show All
