  • SQL Server Browsing my cube is extremely slow and how do I correctly deploy (process?) the database?

Hello, I have a fact table with about 1.3M rows and three dimension tables (one of them is about 80,000 rows, the others only 1000). When I use the Browser and add more than two dimensions to it (each with about a three-level hierarchy), it gets really, really slow to display. It may take up to 2 minutes to refresh (I have a gig of ram with a 3.2 GHz P4, Windows XP Pro). I ran the Design Aggregation Wizard (I selected Molap), it makes one partition with 70 aggregations. Is that good Can I / should I increase it The other thing I noticed is that the .asdatabase file stays very small (only a few kbs). The MDF file, on which this is based, is about 600 megs. I would expect the .asdatabase to be fairly large. Am I correct about that I fe ...Show All

  • .NET Development Socket related..some users can't connect...

Anyone know what would cause some users not to be able to connect to my socket server Is this firewall related My socket server is listening at port 80. After that, of course is puts them into a different port. Basically we have 2 servers, a web and a socket server. The web checks the users login information, then contacts the socket server to see if they're online. If they're not online, the UI then connects to the socket server. Problem is, it'll log them in via the web server, then it'll connect to the socket server and disconnect immediately. What causes this Firewall on their end While we're at it, is there a better way to check if they're online or not rather than having to hit the socket server from the web Beca ...Show All

  • SQL Server Trunc(date)

Hi.... I am new to SQL Server. I primarily use Oracle which allows me to trunc(date) to removed the timestamp from a date. Can anyone tell me the equivalent in SQL Server Thanks! Christine Yes, you can convert the date to a non-containing string representation, like CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),GETDATE(),112) But you have to keep in mind that storing the string representation in a datetime column this will add the 00:00:00 because this is not separated in SQL Server. • .NET Development Findby can't find row that meet its condition

Hi there! I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas or seen this problem. To begin with, I have a table called StockItemsbyLocation that has a composite primary key which comprises of column Code and column Location. The logic is, when my app detects an incoming record, it checks to see if it is already in the table. It does this by using the generated tableadapter method "FindByLocationCode". If it successfully finds one, it puts it into the datarow "row". This code seem to work for my other tables, but on this table it seems to not detect records with the same Code and Location value. Because it is a primary key, it does not allow me to add the record, which is good because I want to be able to edit the reco ...Show All

  • SQL Server passing a timestamp datatype column to a variable and back

After several hours of trying, I trow the towel in the ring and come here to ask a question. Source system uses a timestamp column in the transaction tables. which is equal to a non-nullable binary(8) datatype (sql 2000 bol). What I want to do is get the timestamp at the start of the transfer and at the end of the transfer of data. and store these in a controltable I try to do this in 2 sql execute tasks: sqltask 1: "select @@DBTS AS SourceTimestamp" and map the resultset to a variable. Here come's the first problem what variable type to take DBNULL works (meaning it doesn't give errors) (BTW: is there a way to put a variable as a watch when debugging sql tasks ) INT64 and UINT64 don't work error message that t ...Show All

  • Visual Studio Team System Merge/shelve/Source Control Explorer Strangeness???

Here is the scenario as best as I can describe it. I'm hoping someone can explain why/how these things can happen. 1. Developer#1 attempts a merge from top of tree to branches\v1.0.x, gets some type of error (maybe SQL error but it put pending changes) Any ideas of what can cause sql errors 2. Due to the error that developer was seeing I (Dev#2) did the merge with no errors and shelved my changes for that developer to unshelve, review then checkin. The developer did this. 3. Developer #3 At some point during the above did a shelve of items they were working on in the branch. 4. Developer #3 notices a branches\v1.0.1 tree with just the files from Developer #1. They also notice some items in the shelve they did show up in v1. ...Show All

  • .NET Development Problems with reading from an INI file

I'm reading from an INI file using the Win32 method GetPrivateProfileString, but it seems to be too slow. How do I correct it or rather, how else can i read from an INI file in a faster, more effecient way . Thanks in advance well calling to native/Win32 will be slow from a "managed" environment - you are making calls from "high" to "low" platform/components so you would expect perf issues. the other way I guess is to manually read the ini file using a StreamReader, reading it like a normal file. It is advisable however to store things in Xml in this case, as you can navigate to the nodes you wish to and get the elements etc.. you want and act upon them in the way you ...Show All
