  • Game Technologies: DirectX, XNA, XACT, etc. TotalRealTime behaviour

I've used GameTime.TotalRealTime.TotalMilliseconds to access the wall clock time and it looks like it pauses when I drag the game window using mouse. Is it right and is it good :) In my case I need to keep the projectile going even in this case because my game is a network one and if the player drags the window all projectiles should fly in a synchronized manner on both PCs. I use DateTime.Now.Ticks as workaround and get what I need, but anyway I wanted to let you know about this effect. In this case, all projectiles / physics should be done by the host computer, and the others just simulate the transitions between the states received from the server ...Show All

  • Game Technologies: DirectX, XNA, XACT, etc. Creating a basic Terrain

Hi everyone! I just downloaded game studio express and have successfully imported a mesh. Now, I'm ready to start building my game. I've decided to try and tackle some concepts 1 at a time and then incorporate them into a game. The first concept I'm trying to tackle is creating Terrian. I've searched quite a few places, but most tutorials I find simply create a random height terrain and render the color of the terrain based on height. What I'm wanting to do is import an image file and lay that on top of a grid. The most important consideration I have for the future is moving models over the terrain and adjusting the models x location to match the terrain height. This is all clear as mud. Any help or direction I would greatly ...Show All

  • .NET Development how to insert the controls into datagrid

hi! in my datagrid there are multiple records that needed to be inserted to my database. my problem is that it would be inserted to only one row and it would depend on the id. for example: - the datagrid will have 3 columns (student id, subject, grade) the rows will be (2006-01, Math, 88), (2006-01, English, 87). - the database has 5 columns (student id, math, english, science, history) -- i need to insert the grade in their corresponding columns based on student id.  how could i do this i'm really confused right now and any help is appreciated.. Loop through all rows of the datagrid. Then decide if you need to send an insert or an update to the database for each row ...Show All

  • .NET Development development server vs full IIS????

Apparently my needs are such that I want to deploy my web service using ONLY the development server. The service is to be accessed only from the local machine, but needs to access a locally connected printer. I have tested my service under the development server but dont know how or what to do to deploy my service to an XP pro box (that has 2.0 runtime on it already) so that my local apps can make use of it. Even dumber of a question - do I have to do anything at all (Other than publish to a directory on the machine I desire it to run on ) Thanks. Just publish the service to the other machine. You may need to create a virtual directory in IIS for the directory you publish it to. ...Show All

  • Windows Forms Setting Row Height based on cell content

Hi I have a column in a datagridview that i need to custom paint. The column is a text column and the height of the text in this column when custom painted will determine the height of the row. I have handled the custom painting OK and the calculating of the row height from the text I am painting. Setting the row height in the custom cell painting event handler works ok but causes a display problem in that you see the row drawn at the default height then change to the new height when my cell is painted. This shows up badly when the grid is first drawn or the first time you page through the grid. How can I set the row height before ANY painting of the row has taken place but still get access to the CellPaintingEventArgs I ...Show All

  • Visual Studio Express Editions Cannot Access ASP.NET Configuration Tool

I downloaded, installed and registered Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition. All went as smooth as silk. Created a new website on my webserver running on my intranet. I want to start setting up the website for Membership and Role management, however, the ASP.NET Configuration tool is "greyed out" on the Website Menu. I have Administrator rights to the website. What's up Thanks You should post your questions on the http://forums.asp.net site as this group is for the registration and install of the Express products. For Web Development (Includeing the Visual Web Developer) you should use the above site. Note that there is a membership group on the above site were you might be able t ...Show All

  • Visual Studio Team System Developer Edition and Builds

Hello ! When I read the posts, it seems that we can run tests in a build only with Tester Edition. However, when I ran by build on the server, here is the mesage I got : "MSBUILD : warning : Visual Studio Team System for Software Testers or Visual Studio Team System for Software Developers is required to run tests as part of a Team Build." So I installed Developers Edition and no more complain. However, no test is executed and this is apparently because no one is defined in my test list. And of course, because I cannot edit my test list in DE. With the Team Suite (trial edition) I had before, I could configure my build to run all the tests, even the tests not defined in a test list. But this configuration doesn't launch ...Show All

  • SQL Server Report Builder and optional parameters

Hi, Is it possible to create optional parameters in Report Builder An *ordinary* parameter is created by marking a filter expression as "prompted". At run-time, the user will be asked to provide a value for this parameter (or accept a default value if it is available). This works fine. What I want is to let the user choose whether to provide a value, or leave the parameter empty. In latter case, the reports should not take the parameter into account and display all available data. Example: I have a list of products grouped by the name of the supplier. I want users to be able to see the entire list, or narrow it down to one supplier only. So I create a free text parameter that will contain a part of the supplier's name. I ...Show All

  • Visual Studio Express Editions GUI?

Hey I am brand new to C++ and I literally just downloaded Visuall C++. Anyways I was wondering, how do I open up the GUI editor Thanks.   -drndrw Looking back, I think you may have meant how to start up Visual C++ EE. Once you've installed the application, you should be able to find it at Start->All Programs->Microsoft Visual C++ Express Edition. When the application starts up, you can go File->New Project, and then select Windows Forms Application. Give it a name and click OK. Once you start make sure you have your toolbox showing (View->Show Toolbox) and start playing around with the different options. From here, its all exploration. ...Show All

  • Windows Search Technologies Add a new location to wds3

Is there a simple way to add a new location to the wds3 scope In 2.5 (or 2.6 ) we could edit the locations in the registry under HKCU. Since wds3 is now running as SYSTEM and there is only one indexer per machine I guess HKCU a suitable place for this If we have to implement Craw-Scope related Interfaces could you point me in the right direction where to find then. Or better still point me in the direction of some sample code I can tear up. Again my preference is to do this in C#, so any interface for C# would be fantastic. (If it can be done) Paul - The correct registry location in WDS 3.0 is: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Desktop Search\DS\Views\Locations Paul Nystrom - MSFT ...Show All

  • Game Technologies: DirectX, XNA, XACT, etc. Benefits of XNA Game Studio

Can someone with experience using Game Studio please identify the features it provides to assist an individual game developer I'm skeptical because it doesn't have any built-in capabilities to import animations created in 3D packages. That's a basic feature any game creation tool should have. You are dismissing alot of features that came with XGS: * template projects to get you started * basic game engine/state machine already written for you * content pipe-line so you don't have to worry about resource format/import/export if you just need the basic * deployment on Xbox * debug your code via simple Visual Studio interface * access to alot of the graphics classes/routines so you don't have to write your own ...Show All
